Catering prices - i have no clue!

Hi Ladies,

I'm new at this and have no idea about catering prices.  What should I expect a bare minimum price per person for a buffet style, passed hors d'oeuvres, and an open bar of domestic beer/well liquor?  Is something like this possible to do for l around 100 price per person?

Anyone have advice on:
Spoonbread, Inc
Steven Brown
Sage
Naturally Delicious

THANKS!!!!

Sage & ND will blow that budget.

Spoonbread - while the food is wonderfully dlelicious, the communication and organization is horrible.

I would recm'd trying to provide your own bar (buying your own wines/beers/liquors) - and you can then keep it at $100pp.

    Food w/Beverage Service (sodas/ice/mixers), about $60/$70pp
    Rentals, about $30 - $50pp
    Staffing, $3 - $7K

Thanks CAEid!!  If we did our own bar, do we need to take out insurance for that?

If the caterer allows you to bring the alcohol in yourself (most do) then the caterer would hold the insurance.

I don't have any advice for those specific caterers.  However, have you thought about going to a restaurant?  I know that I've seen some excellent prices on catering menus.

Do you mind if I ask where you're planning to have the reception?

    Hi,

I'm planning on having the reception at the Prospect Park Picnic House, and they have a list of caterers to use.

I thought Spoonbread's food was ok, it wasn't anything special.  Naturally Delicious is good, but they were way out of our budget of $150pp for a sit down dinner and full bar (no passed hors d'ouvres).

Crave Catering has very good prices, not sure if the food is good, though.
