Yet another sand cermony question!

My FI and I both have children from our previous marriages (he has a 9 yo son & I have an 8 yo son) and we would like to include them in with our sand cermony we will be doing. The reading we will be using also includes our children and I was trying to figure out how we should do this.

The way we wanted to do it at first would be for me to have a jar of sand, my FI to have a jar of sand, and our boys to have a jar of sand (and then of course pour them all together to show the joining of us all). However the more I think about it, would it make more sense to just have the 2 jars and 1 would be for both FI and his son and the other for myself and my son? I've never actually been to a wedding where they did a sand cermony so wasn't sure how this would be handled in our situation. Any ideas? TIA!

Re: Yet another sand cermony question!

  • I really think that comes down to personal choice. I have a daughter that I will incorporate in the sand ceremony if we have one and she will have her own sand, but both of you having children gives it a neat twist. I think it's a really cool idea to having the children pour the sand in with their parents, but maybe ask them what they want to do? Good luck!

  • When my aunt did a sand ceremony, each of her two children and his two got their own sand.

  • It's totally up to you.

If it were me I would have 4 jars for 4 people.  It makes sense to me in terms of the symbolism and also makes sense to me logistically instead of having 2 people try to pour one vase together.
  • My FI and I have 5 kids between the two of us.  But for us our ceremony is actually going to be on the beach and we will have each child actually take a handful of sand from the beach and add it to the sand box that we purchased and we will use the vases that came with the box set.
