DIY Makeup?

I have read a few posts about brides paying vs. doing their own makeup for the wedding - I am thinking of doing my own - with the help of my MOH - we have a family friend that works for clinique that can do my trial and help me practice (and my MOH practice) and I can just buy what I need for the wedding the day - I would prefer not to have to leave the house to get my makeup done since hair is being done at my house - and it over $100 to have someone travel for my makeup (not including trial and application) - I would pay it if I thought it was worth it....thoguhts?

Re: DIY Makeup?

  • If you practice beforehand and have a Clinique representative to help you, then you should be fine. As long as you are comfortable with it during the trial then there's no reason not to!
  • I agree.  I'm doing my own, but I know that it will be different than my usual routine because of the primers, etc so I'm going to start practicing a month out (can't do it sooner because I don't have my tan going yet.)

  • Lots of girls do their own.  You can browse the DIY makeup sticky for tips and ideas.

That being said--I still think it's worth it to pay for a professional.  I am currently looking into doing my own for a photo shoot and for the amount I would have to invest on products, I could pay to have airbrush done. (Unfortunately, it's an early morning shoot so that's not an option for me.)

Anyway, to me, it was worth it just so I wouldn't have to worry about how I looked, but it's a matter of personal preference.
  • In the beginning, I was pretty set on doing it myself because I love playing with makeup and people are always complementing me on how good it looks.  I've hired a hair and makeup person that will be coming to me and it's all included in her price, so I am now going to have her do it as long as the trial goes well.

I think they key thing is, as pp mentioned, to be comfortable and practice as much as you can.  Also, if you plan on using the products you are purchasing after the wedding, then it's worth it to do it yourself.  But if they will just sit in your drawer at home, I would recommend spending the money on a makeup artist and enjoy the pampering on your big day :)

  • FYI loveglambeauty, you're not supposed to be soliciting business on these forums.  If you use them, use them as a bride, not a business.  You've been reported.

  • OP,  I did my own makeup for my wedding and I don't regret it.  I started doing practice runs at it a couple months before the wedding so that I could get really comfortable with it.  I think that if YOU are comfortable with doing it (and doing it when you might get highly nervous) then go for it.  Getting a trial with your Clinique friend is a great idea too.  And, I also consulted with many youtube videos from people like KandeeJohnson for help and ideas as well.
