Realistically, would an outdoor early May ceremony be too hot?

My FI says it will be too hot, but I've lived in Texas my whole life and am sure June, July, and August are when it gets just unbearably hot. I think an early May ceremony outdoors would hopefully range in the high 70's?

If this doesn't work, can anyone recommend a better 2013 date when they weather won't SUCK?

It could be hot but it's been pretty nice the past couple of years. The one thing that I would worry about at that time of year would be storms. 5-5-95 was the biggest, most expensive thunderstorm in history.

Yeah, I would definitely be more worried about the storms that time of year. I work Taste of Addison each year and the entire weekend this year was ruined by storms.

At least make sure you have a Plan B.

Ditto Storms. I got married on May 21st last year, and it was the first weekend in an entire month that it did not rain/storm.

You really just never know.

I think the first weekend in May is the only one doable. That was when our E-pics were schedule for -- but of course, it rained! We did them about 2 weeks later, mid-May and it was hot.

I'm a fan of fall outdoor ceremonies--late September to early November. We got married outside November 7 and it was perfect. (Of course, on our first anniversary, it was freezing.) Texas weather is just iffy, unfortunately. Just make sure you have a Plan B.

I agree with all the plan b advice, I got married in early April outside and while the temp was lovely it was SO windy. I think no matter what time of year you pick you could end up with issues.

We're getting married in May this year and we LOVE to have an outdoor ceremony but we realize there's a better chance it won't happen due to rain and/or heat. We booked a venue that has an indoor and an outdoor option and we can change out minds the same day depending on weather. I would say if you want to hope for the best in early May, that's okay but you MUST make sure you have a venue that includes an indoor back-up plan that you are satisfied with.

If your heart is set on an outdoor ceremony, my vote would be with stephiehall -- fall outdoor ceremonies are beautiful. GL!

I got married on May 29th. It rained almost every day that month except for the last week of May. That morning, it was so hot at my 11am outdoor ceremony. May is such a crapshoot. I would worry more about rain than heat.

We got married November 5 this year, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Ours wasn't outdoor, and I dislike outdoor ceremonies, but I would say Fall is your best bet if your heart is set on outside.

You just can't predict the weather -- make sure you have a plan B. My advice would be to look for a venue that has lots of windows -- that way if you can't have it outside, at least you can feel like it.

Hmm...maybe. We've said tentatively May 2013, but March is definitely possible, but I worry about it possibly being too cold. I'm pretty sure it snows a lot in February. I think the best idea would be to tour venues in March through May...see what the odds are!

A&M Gardens in Azle has a garden for ceremonies & the reception room on the grounds so the wedding can be brought inside if necessary. In the garden area, they have a beautiful turf which can be dried within an hour.
For the heat, they use fans (which I've read are quiet & unobtrusive) in the garden.

We are having our wedding outdoors on May 12, 2012. Lets hope it is great weather but we also have a huge outdoor tent just in case.
