Picking a venue- How stressful!!!!

My fiance and I just  purchased our rings yesterday and he does not want a long engagement. Southern Oaks is our dream, but seems impossible for it to be a reality financially. I am from New Orleans, and I love our FQ, but I would not ask guests to try to drive and park down there.

I am looking into Parkview Terrace at City Park for our venue and reception. I want the most amazing wedding possible since my fiances' siblings have always gone to the JP, and I'm the youngest in the family. We are only go to have about 125 guests in attendance so I'm wondering do you think we can make that venue a romantic and magical place or is there somewhere else for that price range that we should be looking into. I was looking at the W hotel, but I haven't heard back from them yet on price.

I would rather not go in the FQ and on the westbank so I guess I have limited myself a lot! Any help will be appreciated :-)

Picking a venue was so stressful, it gets so much better!  City Park is great, have you looked at the Casino Room?  The federal Ballroom is nice as well and in the downtown area.  I found the W hotel to be out of my price range.  I am getting married at the Hampton on convention center, its much nicer than it sounds and the food is great.  Hope you find what you are looking for.

W hotel has a $15000 food and beverage minimum with additional charges for ceremony space and rooms used. We just saw the Audubon clubhouse and it was so beautiful with great prices. I think it would be perfect for a wedding of your size. City park is beautiful also!

I felt the same way about getting married in the FQ, and wanted an intimate romantic space, so we decided on the Parkview Terrace. Have you looked at the room yet? It's really pretty with hard wood floors and full of windows that look out into the park. We are dressing up the space with candles and flowers.
My first choice was the W Hotel but I NEVER heard back from them! Most FQ locations have a food & beverage minimum, so figure that into your budget. You can also check with local caterers to ask them for ideas on intimate locations for your reception. Pigeon Catering had given me a list of places that I would have never thought of!

I have not gone to see the venue as of yet, I have just been looking at pictures of the venue online and trying to get reviews so far. Their prices are really good compared to some I have seen, so right now it's my first choice. Do you find them easy to work with and accommodating to you?

I dont find that guests mind paying to park. my cousin had her wedding the FQ and no one complained. We are having our wedding at the wax museum, there wasn't a minimum that I remember.

I am having my reception at The Foundry in the Warehouse District, there's even a parking lot across the street!  The space is great, the food is AMAZING, and they've been wonderful to work with.  The minimum for a Saturday night isn't as high as the W Hotel.

Are candles as centerpieces allowed at city park venues does anyone know?

Has anyone used candles instead of flowers as centerpieces? Pictures would be great if you have any.

I'm not sure if City Park allows candles.

We are going with Bencahi House, right down the street from City Park, and using Luminous Events for our candle centerpieces. It's a very nice space, but nothing is included with the rental exccept tables and chairs, so it's a bit of work.

I just got back from looking at St. Louis Hotel, Federal Ballroom, and Riverview Room. I am going with the Federal Ballroom and it was not a hard choice at all! It is beautiful and the most reasonable price and comes with everything you need!

The Aquarium could be a cool alternative location, but it's pretty non traditional.

Haha, we were in the same boat as you with affording Southern Oaks--we chose somewhere else in the end, and we're much happier.  Anyway, my fiance has a friend getting married at the Audubon Tea Room and it looks really cool.  Very different and gorgeous when it's all dressed up for weddings.
