Tipping?

So I'm a few weeks out, can't believe it and we trying to get an idea about tipping. I was reading one of the other boards about tipping their maitre'd. They were saying between 3%-5% of the total bill! Our facility says our maitre'd is included with our package. Did anyone/is anyone planning on tipping that much for your maire'd? I would have never thought of this if I didn't read it.

    Hmm.. I didn't think to tip them since out tip is already included int he gratuity. I don't think I will since my Maitre'd is part owner and I'm already giving them a $2k tip.

    Um, I would never think of giving the Maitre'd that much as a tip!  I know with my venue, the wait staff gratuity is included in our cost, but the Maitre'D is not.

     Gratuity was included in our package price for our reception location also.  We didn't give an additional  tip our maitre'd b/c it was our DOC that did everything.  I'd say it's not required but if the maitre'd does an amazing job, you can tip as you see fit.

    Thanks ladies. I was just really confused when I read it and wanted to make sure this wasn't the norm. Gratuity is also included in ours so I will just keep it at that. My Aunt is mainly helping with everything the day of and as far as a few emails to our maitre'd and our tasting I've been doing everything on my own.

    Our contract says it includes service charge and taxes, but not tip.  Said they recommend a 3-5% gratuity given to the matre'd and they would distribute to the rest of the staff.  I would check with your coordinator to distinguish between service charge and tip. : )

    I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARE ONLY THREE WEEKS OUT!! OMG!!!! : )

    Good to know! Our bill includes tax and gratuity. I would think that would cover a tip towards any matre'd? Is that a person who is assigned to help with your wedding on your wedding day? Or is that the person who you typically communicate with during the planning process? I'm a little confused on that.
