Venue ideas for 45 People

Hi Pittsburgh Knotties -
 
I'm trying to find an interesting and unique venue for our very small wedding/reception - which will be about 40-45 people total.  We live in the South Hills but really like downtown, since most of our guests are out of towners.  However, we're open on location.  We are trying to stay close to $5K for a budget.  I know that's not much, but for 45 people we're hoping we can make it work.  Any unique small space ideas?  Mattress Factory is too much $$ for us at $3500 just for the space, but that's all we've checked so far.

    Where exactly in South Hills are you? And how fancy of a venue are you trying to find? I have a few thoughts for you but wanted to know what you're looking for first...

    We live in Upper St. Clair.  Neither of us is originally from Pittsburgh, which is why we're pretty clueless as we plan.  :-)  We go downtown a lot, though, so we are comfortable with a venue there as well.  We probably don't want to go way out to Monroevill...way up in the North Hills, etc.

    I love Olive or Twist in the Cultural District.  You are able to rent the upstairs for private parties.  They have a large bar upstiars with dark, rich woods.  I'm not sure if that is the "look" you are going for, but I think it would be a great place for a small reception/party.

    Regardless if you like baseball or not, PNC Park has amazing views of the city! You can rent their Club level venues for private events.  We are having our RD there for 50 in the Gunner's Club which is located behind home plate, the view is breathtaking!

    Are you having the ceremony and reception in the same space?  Sorry, I misread your OP.

    Thanks - I will look into both of these places.  My fiance is a huge baseball fan (although...Cleveland Indians :-)) so PNC could be fun.

    Yes, we'd prefer the ceremony and reception to be in the same place.  But our ceremony is going to be pretty quick.  My fiance's grandfather is a minister who will do the service.  We're more interested in enjoying the time with our family and friends.  I would love more details about PNC Park if you have them.  And ideas from anyone else, too.  :-)

    Hmm, the Heinz History Center has some cool, loft-type spaces, but Common Plea Catering can get sort of expensive.

    Would a small room at the Frick still be considered unique?  It's not urban or loft-y, but it is very pretty.  Not sure about rental fees there.

    Or the Urban Mountain Gathering Place?

    I asked where in SH you live because I grew up in Dormont...but some people consider places South Hills that I don't...

    I like the idea of PNC Park...we'd actually thought about doing Heinz Field, but we're not sure if it falls into our price range.

    The Dormont Rec Center is pretty nice...small and intimate, and can definitely hold 45...they also have a kitchen and ample parking...I don't know what it costs, but I doubt it's much...I don't know how fancy you want to go, but I'm a simple person so that seems nice to me :)

    There's a place in Moon Twp I just discovered called Robin Hill Park.  It has a beautiful outside gazebo and an old house for a reception.   I believe it's around $500 to rent the space.

    I had never even heard of the Urban Mountain Gathering Place, LFR, but it looks like a wonderful option & I've sent them an email.


    Heinz History Center doesn't have the small gallery available on our date, and the Frick is a bit cost-prohibitive. 


    I haven't found any pictures of the Dormont Rec Center online, but it's close enough that I can drive by - thanks for that suggestion, Jaime.
     
    LL&Y - The Robinson Park looks very pretty and definitely within my budget.  I like the idea of a city view for our guests, but if PNC and UMCP are unavailable I will definitely reach out to them.

    A really beautiful and unique site is the Morning Glory Inn in the South Side. I am not sure how expensive it is because it was way to small for our guest list. But it's a cute little bed and breakfast type place with a garden outside. You could do your ceremony and reception there! Smile Happy reception site searching!

    Just an FYI where things stand.  We went to James Gallery this weekend.  It's a great space, but really tough to find with all the construction.  Also my DF is really into a city view for our guests.  We are hitting PNC Park tonight, so far that's his favorite.  We called the Urban Mtn Gathering Place but the number was disconnected.  Hmm...not sure if that's a viable venue anymore though it does have a great view (we drove by).

    heads up on the urban gathering place: we tried to book them for my bridal shower last year but no matter how many emails or phone calls my MOH & i placed, none of them were ever responded to. we went elsewhere as a result.

    Oh man, that sucks!  Huh, maybe it's closed now?

    A word about Morning Glory Inn- it has received some very poor reviews here.  Do a google search for reviews to see what I mean, or I can send over the board's list of vendors to beware if you want.

    LaFemmeRousse...  I visited the Morning Glory last week and it sounded very nice.  Can you please provide a link or something for the negative reviews  you mention?
