Bad review of my wedding venue

I am very concerned. I am getting married at Ashelynn Manor in April. However, a coworker of mine’s granddaughter just got married there this past weekend and she had some not good things to say about the place. 1-guests were not allowed seconds from the buffet, the food was picked up 45min after the reception started and no one was allowed any food after that. 2. The bride came to ask for the leftover food, and was told there was none and if there was they  donate it to a homeless shelter come to find out that the bride’s mother saw the waitstaff walking out with boxes of leftover food. 3. The brides grandmother brought chocolate dipped strawberries that she made, guests were not allowed seconds and once again the bride asked for the leftovers there were none or so she was told, a wai tstaff members were outside eating the leftover food! Come to find out the wait staff had told multiple children they couldn’t have more because they were eating them… I am very concerned, anyone have any advice??

Go over your contract and make sure you know what their policies are. If you're concerened, then try to discuss it with the coordinator of the venue. If you're still uneasy, you might check into an outside wedding coordinator just for the day of you're wedding. That way someone is there to make sure the site lives up to their end of the contract and that your wishes are followed through.

If you have any special things you want during the reception (like the coworker's granddaughter did with the strawberries) make sure its okay with your venue and get it in writing. Maybe you can ask them what they do with the food and see if they specifically state in the contract that you can't take any with you.

I hate that alot of venues and caterers won't let you take home left over food. It's food you paid for right?

Also, your coworker's granddaughter might be exaggerating the truth (or she might not). But totally let your venue know your concerns and that you don't want those things happening during your reception. Just know that everything will work out and don't stress over it. Some ppl are going to have bad experiences at venues and some will have good.

    Good luck!

I sure hope you get everything resolved. I've recently heard of people having problems at this venue. Just work hard and stay on top of every detail. And like PP mentioned- you be SURE that the details and requests that you are making are being signed and added to your contract.

You are scaring me! This is my venue too, as far as food they don't let you take leftovers home that is in the contract. I'll make sure to ask lot's of questions when I go for my two weeks meeting.

It's a health hazard to take food home.  What if someone got sick?  The facility is responsible for the food that they serve.  What if you or the guests taking home the food don't store it properly?

As for the seconds issue, I would speak with your facility contact and get some clarification on why this would happen.

I can understand why you can't take food home, but not allowing guests to take seconds is ridiculous. As a PP suggested, I would go over your contract with a fine tooth comb - i would even put in the contract that guests are allowed to eat however much they want during the course of the event. It may seem silly but you already know that this venue has issues with it, so I would nip it in the bud. If they do to you - it's a breach of contract.

I also agree that if you can possibly get a wedding coordinator for the day-of, you should do so...so you're not stuck dealing with all of it.

    Good luck!
