Invitations - What are you doing?

I know we're seven months out (but time is flying!!!)  Have you starting thinking about inviations yet?  Are you buying or DIYing?  I've been looking at etsy and some sellers are selling digital files of their invitations that you can print off yourself.  Has anyone done this?  Where'd you have them printed?
The only thing I'm sure about is that I want to do a pocketfold haha!

Re: Invitations - What are you doing?

  • If we were having more people I would buy a design and print it myself. With 25 guests it's easier to just buy them though.

We're going with this design from bicyclepaperdesigns.com in a different color. They're exactly what I had envisioned and I was thrilled to find them.

I think we're going to spice them up a bit with a belly band or...something.

i've been going crazy over invites for the past few months. recently, i decided that i LOVED letterpress too much to not have letterpress invites. they are more pricey, but i found a designer and did some price comparisons and it didn't end up being THAT much more.

plus, i got to have them custom designed exactly how i wanted! I was able to give the designer the same image of the birds that i used on my save the dates, so that everything matches. i'm having 150 sets of:
invitation, rsvp card + envelope, reception card, inner + outer envelope.

    here's the final mockup design:

    here's closeups of each card:

  • My FMIL is doing them for us! She has always made cards for family celebrations, birthdays, and other events that she sends to family and friends, and they are AMAZING! FI and I have been trying to convince her to open up an etsy shop. So, what better way to show her that I really love her designs than to ask her to do my invitations! She is so excited and made me about 12 mockups to choose from.

Now, she can just take her time and get them done by July!

  • I bought mine on sale from Office Max and will be printing them myself.  They are actually called a "bulletin kit" so they are a little untraditional in that they are a booklet.  But, we are on a budget and invitations are not a priority in that budget so 150 invites and 200 envelopes (need only 95 invites but they came in sets of 50 and I was afraid of mistakes) cost us under $65 (though guess add in some cost for ink once we print).

  • Those are so pretty kellycatalo!  Do you mind sharing who designed them?

  • I just did my mock-up last weekend and I plan on getting some work done this weekend because they are going to take me a long time to assemble :P
I'm combining my own designs and printing, heat embossing, bling and pearls and ribbon :)

i found Allison of Word Letterpress through etsy, but her website is here:
    <a href="http://www.wordletterpress.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.wordletterpress.com/</a>

most quotes i received from letterpress designers were upwards of $1200 for 150. i'm getting my set from her for $800, so i am pretty excited! i know it's a lot for invitations, but it's a great deal for letterpress.

  • Love those Kelly!!

I'm DIYing mine.  Designed in PhotoShop (not gonna lie, I stole a design from a website that I liked and re-created it, just like my save the dates.  I'm pretty handy with graphic design, but not that creative apparently haha).  I'm gonna print them myself on paper that I'll order from C&P.
  • I designed my own invitations using Powerpoint.  They're very personal and not very formal, except for the wording.  They will be printed by VistaPrint and go into No 10. Pocketfolds from Cards and Pockets.  Here's what they'll look like:

    Invitation

    Reception Card.

    RSVP

    Pocketfold:

Now that I see it on the screen I think I'm going to play with the font of the Reception card a bit because it's not as clear as I'd like.  The RSVP is a little off but that's just my cutting and pasting skills not being great.  The RSVP envelope will be from Cards and Pockets as well and will be in their "Fairway" color.  I'm just trying to hammer out the details on everything and then I'll be placing the order early next week, I hope.  I have a groupon I need to use soon.

<div>Haha! This is totally what I did! Except I ended up tweaking the designs I was copying and they actually turned out to be original in the end! I used publisher though...</div><div>
</div><div>does anyone know if publisher and photoshop are similiar in how to use them? I love publisher but I can't get it on my Mac at home, so I have to do most of it at work... shhhhh!! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /></div>

I wish I was handy in photoshop because I've found a design online that I'd love to use.  I designed my own save the dates in powerpoint, they were really easy because it was just pictures!

  • We are paying for the design from Studio G designs on etsy and buying paper and pocket folds from cards and pockets.com a local printer is assembling, so its semi DIY but not really and while its cheaper it isn't like buying the kits in comparison.  Though I woudl say I;m saving almost half of what a comparable suite would be at a one stop invite place.

Kelly Catalo I am so jealous! I drool over letterpress

  • I ordered from an etsy seller, but not to print myself. I found that her prices were right on starting at $3 per invite. I was able to pay her to assemble, which was well worth the cost to me. I 100% recommend her http://www.etsy.com/shop/lvandy27

  • Wow- I am envious of all the DIY invites on here!  I just don't have the patience or the creativity to do them myself, so I'm ordering them from a designer on etsy @ about $4.00 per set.  I've been working on the wording the past couple of weeks (having a full Catholic Mass and there are apparently 40 different ways to express that), so as soon as we can agree on the wording I will start the order.  My only hold up will be the printing of return address on the postcard RSVP response card because we are starting to look for a new house right now and I don't know where we will be living by the time the invites go out.  I may just end up putting my parents' address for the sake of simplicity and to get them done.  I know it's still early, but we are having a DW and I just want to cross this off of my list!

  • NO2012 reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask.  For the RSVPs, who's address are you putting on the envelope?  FI and I live together but my parents are paying for the wedding and his parents are paying a significant chunk as well.  Do you put your own address, the bride's parents or the grooms parents?  I just don't know what's acceptable.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • Im going with edge painting letterpress and studio g printables
  • My mom works for a printing company so we're going to design them and she'll have them printed. My FMIL is an artist, so for the front she's making some sort of flower drawing (I told her my bouquet flowers). So I think it's nice that it will be so personal! From both the moms :)

Sarah- I LOVE your invites, they are beautiful & kind of match my STDs. And, I was going to write a post asking this same exact question b/c I thought I would put FI & myself's address but then my Mom made a comment about the RSVPs going to her and I was confused. Everyone is paying here too, so what is right? I can't even remember what I have seen on other invites!

I have been going crazy the past few days looking at invites on line, ordering catalogues and finding places where I could design them (I am not creative or crafty enough to DIY). I just don't know what I want !
  • I think we are going with VP as well. Not 100% on the design yet though.

I love all your invites, they look so nice!

I have never associated the return address with who is paying or technically hosting, rather than who needs to be keeping tracking of the replies.  In our situatuon, we are all paying (my parents, his parents, and FI & I) and I put my address on the STDs and planned on putting them on RSVPs until I realized I might not want to risk them going to an old address if I do sell my house or move in the middle of it.  Not sure if this is proper "etiquette," but I am way more concerned with the practical logistics of making sure I get the RSVPs in the mail than conveying a message as to who is paying.  I figure that's what the invite wording is for. :)

    I love everyone's designs!

I haven't really thought about invites too much, I have other things I'm trying to accomplish first haha. As for whose return address to use, I'll be using my parents'. FI and I have no idea where we'll be living prior to the wedding, and even if we do find a place before invites go out (which is the plan anyway...), I don't want the hassle of the post office forwarding the RSVPs and them potentially getting lost or never delivered.

  • We stole our idea as well but tweaked it and made it our own. To match our vintage theme, FI will be writing a letter to his mom explaining how he found the love of his life and will be marrying her. (The wording will be from the 40's era but the feelings are all his) Then on the back will be the actual invitation. We are then distressing the look by soaking in tea and putting it in a air mail envelope ( bought off etsy for 10 dollars) and placing an old stamp and addressing to his mom. This will all be in a larger kraft paper envelope and the reply card will be tags (again, off etsy today 15 dollars). I need to find envelopes for the reply cards still. And i can't actually get started until FI finishes the "letter".
