Dinnerware Patterns

I am looking and looking for dinnerware patterns that we can register for, and I just... don't know what I want!

What did you register for, and why?

I am looking more for the casual dinnerware, not fine china- it is beautiful but I doubt I would use it much:)

We didn't register for them, but my grandma bought us just a simple white plate set from the Palm Restaurant collection. They are very nice and we can use them as everyday dishes but also dress them up for dinner parties.

I don't have any pattern suggestions because we're using DH's every day stuff and registered for China because we like to entertain - but - the one thing my mom said to me once that has stuck with me ever since is to get placesettings that are the same color all the way through (porcelain or white clay for white plates for example). Then if you chip them, it isn't nearly as noticible as it would be if the outside was colored and the clay shows around the edge.

Also - for everyday dinnerware, I think you can never go wrong with white. It'll always be in style, you can dress it up or down with chargers or fun napkins, and it'll match almost everything!

Also - check to make sure whatever you get is microwave safe. There are still companies that make every day dishes that are not. My folks have some relatively new pieces at their cabin and we didn't realize that they weren't OK to put in the microwave (because really - the microwave has been standard kitchen issue for 25+ years!) and only figured it out after 2 different pieces had basically blown up during cooking.

Can't go wrong with Corelle!! I love love love mine. My parents have had theirs since their wedding and it still looks amazing. I guess ceramic is more trendy these days, but I don't think anything beats my Corelle

Read the reviews for what you pick out - like PP said, certain types don't do well in the microwave or dishwasher, and also some scratch or break very easily.

We registered for Fiestaware in paprika and for plain white china from C&B. Agreed on Wittyschaffy wrote about white - it's classic, you can do anything with linens to change things up, etc.

My fiance and I mixed and matched a few things at Bed Bath and Beyond from both the Fitz & Floyd Neveah Collection and the Lenox Park City Collection. Durability and simplicity were the most important factors for us... hence choosing bone china and porcelain pieces!

Ditto PP on Crate and Barrel! My recently-married former roommate registered for both the Claire bone china and the Essential Dinnerware and loves them both. They've got beautiful stuff there.

We got the Fiesta dishes in all red and Mikasa Pure Red. The Fiesta dishes are our everyday dishes and the Mikasa dishes are our fancier dishes, but not too fancy.

We have my Correll - I love love love love LOVE these! My parents too had them since the 70's and we still eat off of them every night! In my lifetime (26 years) we have only ever broken one bowl (I dropped it on the cement patio!) My mom buys all of us a set of it when we move out and I will never use anything but for everyday use!

We registered for Denby, which I really, really love. It's high-end but casual. Unfortunately, the high-end comes with a fairly hefty price tag... so no one really shelled out the $ for them.

I won't be registering for a while, but it HAS been on my mind what plates I should have, as I want that basically figured out before we register. I totally agree about the microwave/dishwasher safe and the chipping factor- my college graduation present was a set of the turqoise/chocolate brown plates from target, and I think all of them are chipped and I would never buy them again- even though I still think they are beautiful.

beka- I actually had been gravitating towards the Roulette pieces- and I thought if I do white, it would be fun to be able to get some color pieces as well, and change it up pretty easily!!
