wedding gift

I got a wedding present in the mail yesterday.  At least I'm guessing it's a wedding present since this person wasn't invited to my shower, not to mention that the shower was a month ago.  Do I open it and send a thank you now, or do I wait until after the wedding?  This couple RSVPed "yes" to the wedding.

Re: wedding gift

  • I would open it now to make sure it's intact- not damaged or anything. And they'll probably want to know you received the gift. Send them a thank you note right away acknowledging the gift and how excited you both are to use it and you both are looking forward to seeing them at the wedding.

  • I agree with mekiakoo entirely.

Spinoff question: If the gifts are being sent to my mom's house in PA, should I wait till I am home in PA to open the gift and send the TY or should I go ahead and have my mom open the gift, tell me what it is, and then write the TY? I kind of don't want her to get to open our gifts but I won't be back there until end of June :(

  • Bridetobe- I think in that situation, they mean for you to get it closer to the wedding date, so I'd wait till you can open it yourself.

  • Thanks! All of our registries have my mom's address listed, so I wasn't sure. (We didn't want to clutter our apartment if we got gifts ahead of time -- my mom has a lot more space.)

  • Bridetobe- I agree, I'd wait for yours since I'm sure people KNOW you aren't there right now, right??

  • That's true, although I think some people don't realize the default shipping is set to my mom's place -- for example, my FMIL sent a shower gift and then frantically called my fiance to "intercept it" at our apartment because she thought the default was our address! hahahaha. But anyway, I'm sure it's not a big deal to wait till June anyway.
