Someone please explain DIY invites!

It's confusing me so much!!!

Here's what we're thinking of doing....

FI wants to design them himself and we'll print at home. I want to do pocketfolds from cards and pockets (preferable the Signature). We'll do  postcard RSVPs from vistaprint. And may buy ribbon edging to use as a belly band on the outside. No inner envelopes. All as cheaply (but not cheap) as possible.

Here's what's confusing: sizes, measurements, fitting postcards in.... blah blah blah.

=( Help?

Re: Someone please explain DIY invites!

  • I went online and googled pocket fold invites.  I also went to youtube for tutorials.  The invites board had a sticky a while ago that was titled show me your invites, lots of the girls had measurements for a bunch of different pockets.

Also, Cards and Pockets has templates you can use.
  • The postcards from VP will not fit the signature pocket fold from card and pockets. The measurements don't match. I am doing the same thing as you by using the VP postcards as my RSVPs. So you have to either use the Vertico pocket folds from cards and pockets, buy the A7 himalaya pocket folds from Paper and More or trim the RSVPs down a bit to fit the signature pocket fold. In the end, I've decided to just trim the postcards to fit the signature pocket fold. I have templates I am using in Publisher that I can share. Otherwise, VP has templates for the postcards in photoshop format but you'd have to account for the quarter of an inch you will need to cut off of each side in your design.

</div><div>This :)</div><div>I used their panel pocket so I checked out their sizing and then made my invites/inserts a teeny bit smaller to make sure they fit. If you're printing at home, just test it out; that's one bonus of DIY ;)</div><div>As for the ribbon, you'll have to buy some, see how much you use per invite and then according the size of the rolls, buy the amount you need. </div>

  • Ugh I'm in the same boat as you.  I want to DIY them but I'm SO confused.  I found a website where for around 60ish bucks a woman will design everything for you and then send you the file and give me instructions about what paper, envelopes etc. to use when I print everything out.  I might just do that because when I get confused I get super stressed.
  • I am DIYing our invites.  I ended up getting a "sample" pocket from paperandmore.com (they don't seem to be as expensive).  I got the measurements of the pocket and then started a little bit smaller so they would fit.  Then just started using tables in Word to start the inserts.  It was a lot of trial and error until I finally got them right, but once I figured it out, now everything is saved and I simply have to print.  I do have to admit that my FI helped out quite a bit, he is a welder/fabricator so dealing with measurements and making things is right up his alley.
