This link is to information about it on one diocese's website.  But the info should be the same no matter where you are.

I'm assuming you're talking about getting the certificate.  If you're honeymooning in Italy, you could get it in person at the papal audience :)

I suggest writing directly to the Vatican.  They take a few months to respond but at least it's real.

However, if you want one immediately, they're sold on every street corner in Vatican City on Sundays.

We had to contact someone in our local diocesan office and get a recommendation from our pastor!  Ask your priest, and if he doesn't know, contact your diocese.  We were planning on doing it... but we ran out of time.  I think we'll still try to request one, though, now that the wedding is over!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll def. try contacting our priest, as I spent hours on the diocese website and couldn't find anything!

You, as non-clery, cannot get a papal blessing certificate.  The reason for this is to prevent abuse of the certificates.  First, ask your priest or deacon.

Then your priest or deacon has to contact the Chancery Office (every diocese has one, believe me!) and fill out an app.  The app will require that you and your FI are baptized and in good standing, your wedding must not have yet passed, and that it's at least three months ahead of your wedding for processing.

Then the Chancery passes it on to the Apolostic Blessings Office of Papal Charities at the Vatican.  And then it will be mailed to you!

When we bought ours, the whole process including S&H was about $70.

Just a note on the certificate.  It's more than just a keepsake.  And as the catechism tells us : "Sacramentals do not confer the grace of the Holy Spirit in the way that the sacraments do, but by the Church's prayer, they prepare us to receive grace and dispose us to cooperate with it. 'For well-disposed members of the faithful, the liturgy of the sacraments and sacramentals sanctifies almost every event of their lives with the divine grace which flows from the Paschal mystery of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ. From this source all sacraments and sacramentals draw their power. There is scarcely any proper use of material things which cannot be thus directed toward the sanctification of men and the praise of God.'"

As for buying one at a shop in Rome, those are usually "counterfeits," but it doesn't mean it's worthless.  It would still be a sacramental.
