Meeting Potential Photographers Soon - What to Ask?

what are things to make sure to ask? What should I make sure is in the contract? I feel clueless. I need to make sure I'm getting a DVD and not a CD, right?

Ask for the prices for one photographer for 4 hours, 6 hours, and 8 hours.

Ask the prices for those same hours with two photographers.

Ask the price of CD iwht the photos.

Ask about how many photos are on the CD.

Ask if all rights will be given to you with that CD.

Ask if you need to purchase anything besides the CD or if you can just buy the hours and the CD.

Ask if they charge for drive time.

Ask how long they show up before the wedding.

Ask when they need your list of must take photos.

Ask what the deposit is and when you need to pay the rest.

Ask how long it will take to get the photos in after the wedding.

It doesn't really matter if they give you a CD or DVD as long as they give you high-resolution photos. However, if they are giving you high-resolution photos, they might not all fit on one CD and they might have to provide you with more than one.

Are the photos provided on CD/DVD high-resolution, non-watermarked, edited images? (Some photographers only provide the digital negatives, not retouched photos. One photographer I spoke with charged extra for non-watermarked photos.)

Is it okay for other people to take photos while they are taking photos? (Most photographers say no other PAID photographers but there are a few that don't want ANYONE else - including your family members - taking photos.)

If you only book them for a certain number of hours, how much do they charge if you decide you want them to stay longer?

    What is their refund/cancellation policy?

What is their backup plan if they are unable to shoot your wedding? Have another professional photographer cover for them? Give a refund?

Also ask to see a full set of photos from a recent wedding. The photos they have up on their website/blog are always the best of the best so you want to look at a full wedding to get an overall feel for their work.

These are all good suggestions.  I just wanted to add that a good photographer should do most of the talking.  And I agree with the PP--make sure you see an entire wedding from beginning to end so you will see how they will capture the day.  If you can see a wedding from your actual venue or in similar lighting (outdoors, candlelight, etc.) even better.

Definitely agree with this! One of the photographers we met with answered almost all of our questions without us having to ask them! He even went through his contract with us to make sure we didn't have any questions about that.
