Best store to buy a gown in Manhattan?

I want amazing service, a beautiful selection, and a gorgeous space.

I have heard Kleinfeld is only so-so.  Any other suggestions?

Just for the sake of the conversation, let's say price is not an option.

I had an excellent experience at Saks, which is why I decided to buy my dress there. The customer service was excellent and even though I don't normally shop at Saks (too pricey for me), bridal prices are kind of the same everywhere. I don't know about the selection though because I went during a Melissa Sweet trunk show and only looked at those dresses cause I already knew what I wanted.

I also went to Kleinfelds twice. Both times I had a terrible experience. They carried the dress I wanted, but I refused to buy it there because I didn't want to deal with them for 8 more months. Also, Saks gave me a better price, believe it or not. AND I got a $500 gift credit for buying my dress there which I as able to use towards alterations.

If you are willing to travel into Brooklyn I had a fantastic experiance at a Bridal Salon in DUMBO called the White Gown. I shopped in 4 different places, one being Kleinfelds, and this place had not only the best service, but great dresses and great prices as well.

one more thing... definitely do not go to Adrienne's in the LES. I've heard some real nightmares from brides who bought their dresses there.

I got my dress from Cymbeline on 19th and 5th.  The gowns are pricey but they are also selling dresses from their 2010 line at a VERY reduced price.  The dresses are all gorgeous and the service was phenomenal!!

Thank you all so much!  I always wanted to go to Kleinfeld, but I have been hearing terrible things about it lately, and I don't want to deal with anything negative while I am looking for my gown!

try Designer Loft in Midtown, they are down to earth, so is Gabriella's but their selection isnt so big.  AVOID MARK INGRAM!!! We literally ran out there before we can even say good bye .  The consultant snapped at me, my sister and mom because we were talking together and she felt that she was being ignored "Maybe I should just leave" were her exact words!! lol, it was disgusting how rude, and we couldnt even see the gowns, we had to trust her taste to pull dresses out for us which were terrible and she kept announcing the prices even though we told her that money was not an option.  Good luck finding a dress!! We're were invited to a special show thats having a runway show, tastings and music, you might want to check if you can still get tickets. its on the calendar here i think on 2/23 called the weddings event.  Cheers!

I actually had a great experience at Kleinfeld (I know that's not true for everyone).  My associate was sweet, relaxed and laid back.  My alterations woman was also very nice but my dress didn't really require much for alterations so I did feel cheated that I still had to pay the outrageous flat alterations fee.

Although, now that I hear about Alisonz experience at Saks getting her Melissa Sweet gown I'm totally jealous.

I bought mine at Junko Yoshioka.  More of a designer boutique, so not a huge selection, but I loved a lot of her dresses.  Great space, super customer service.  And the dresses are made to order, so fit is perfect.  They only book one person in at a time, so you pretty much have the whole store to yourself.  Junko herself is at the store a lot so it was nice to actually meet the designer throughout the process.

I also went to Cymbeline. Had a great experience. Recently went for my first fitting and the dress didn't look right so they drove in replacements from PA that night for me to try on the next morning as well as upgraded my veil and threw in a free hair clip. I'm going for my second fitting tomorrow. My sister went to Klienfelds and I would recommend Cymbeline over all of them.

Don't waste your time at Kleinfelds! It's packed, they don't give you the time of day and they are SUPER pushy about you buying something right away. I had a great experience at Wedding Atlier & they have huge selection.

I decided to go to the Bridal Garden in Chelsea after trying on so many overpriced dresses at several boutiques. They have samples and donations from designers, so the stock keeps changing. I found a lovely silk gown for only $400! The money for each purchase goes to a charter school in Brooklyn, so everyone benefits
I will return next month to have my alterations done by them, only $250 as opposed to $750 at Wedding Atelier.  Wink

I went to Mark Ingram, Saks, Bergdorf, Pronovias and Kleinfeld.  I actually had wonderful experiences at ALL of them.  I wound up buying from Kleinfeld because they gave me a VERY nice discount on the dress and the veil, which wound up saving me like $4K.

I'd say of the above, the sales associates at Pronovias seem the least informed and they always seem to have a wait there.  Bergdorf was amazing even though the space is a little tight.  Saks was also nice, but I made the mistake of going the week of THanksgiving and the place was a madhouse.

I went to a trunk show at Lovely Bridal on W. 4th a few weeks ago and fell in love. It's a small boutique with limited designers but I loved the space and will definitely go back when I start shopping for dresses.
