XPOST: Looking for input!

Hi!
My fiance and I are planning to get married Aug.11th 2012 and this is our venue!  We plan on getting married outside of the community hall and having our reception inside.   I was wondering if you had any input on what you think would work best for a ceremony here?  It will be a short ceremony (10-15mins. ) and we plan to have no seating except for a couple of benches for our grandparents .  How would you place all of the bridal party? (4gm and 4bm, 2 flowergirls, 2ringbearers) .

Here is what I'm thinking : ( when looking at the front doors of venue)

* 4 groomsmen standing on top level, left of the door
* Groom and Minister standing on bottom level, centre
* Ringbearers and flowergirls walk from right side of venue down the "aisle" that we will create - up stairs on the right and give ring to Groom.  Then they will walk behind the Groom and Minister and stand in front of groomsmen / bridesmaids side
* Bridesmaids will walk down the aisle and up behind the Groom and Minister and stand on the right hand side of the door
*I (bride) will do the same walk down the aisle and up towards my Groom and the Minister

Our guests will be standing on the lawn in front of the community hall.

I would really love to hear any ideas, suggestions or any problems you may  see happening here!  Thanks so much !!

Happy New Year!!

Re: XPOST: Looking for input!

  • Happy New Year to you too!!

First off, I would have seating for everyone. Your guests are there to watch you and will show up early (15-20 minutes). They need seats, especially since August translates to warm and it will be outside. It will take me longer to walk down the aisle than to get married and I'm providing chairs for everyone. This is one place where cheap chairs/benches are the line for saving money, and having limited seating crosses into unacceptable territory. I'm hosting 100 guests on $8 000 and we have thrown around the idea of BYOC (bring your own chair), but we found chairs slightly above our budget for them (instead of way over budget). To go back under budget, I'm using shoes I already own, abandoning the idea of accessories, and doing the stationery myself. It's very important to me and we rerigged our budget to make it work.

Also, I'm short. Having people seated somewhat levels the playing field a bit and lets me see past someone that is 6 feet tall (I'm 5'-1"). I wouldn't want to be invited and then not be able to see you exchange your vows!

Check out this link. It outlines one bride's troubles that chairs would have easily solved: Chair Debate

I'm assuming you are getting married on the stairs featured in Photos 2 & 3. Will the sign pose your guests any problems seeing you and your fiance as you become Mr and Mrs? It's a very beautiful building and an easy transition from ceremony to reception. I like your plan though! For the processional, I would suggest having groomsmen escort bridesmaids and then split at the stairs, each one taking a side and then going up the centre stairs together and each standing on the side they took the stairs. I suck at verbal descriptions, so I whipped up a diagram of what I'm babbling about. My fiance got Skyrim for Christmas and I'm sorry for taking my boredom out on you (no TV or fiance available right now). I tried to keep it as close to what you described as possible.

  • Ditto PP, a chair for every butt.
  • Gotta have a chair for every butt. My DH has a horrible back and wouldn't be able to stand like that.  He would NEVER dream of taking a seat if there were limited chairs.  Please rethink that part.
  • Thanks ladies!!    I've started looking at my options for ceremony chairs  and they are now absolutely part of our budget :) Thanks for your input!

Sydney91 Thank you so much for taking the time to draw that diagram!!  I really appreciate that! It will deffinetly help to explain to the rest of the wedding party as to how things will work :)  Thankfully the sign isn't really in the way... we might have to be a little creative with the seating plan, but we'll make it work :)

     Thank you again !!

  • Wow! I just read the link you posted (Sydney) and that sounds so terrible!! If I wasn't 100 % about the chairs before -- I sure am now!
