Kids in wedding

We have a son who will be 1 1/2 next yr when we get married. I def want him to be part but not sure how well he will do being a ring barrer. Any other ideas of how we could have him be a part of ur big day?

I had read one thing where someone was having their young son stand with the groom at the atler, then did a unity ceremony involving all three of them. Not too sure if you're leaning towards something like that or more of an attendant roll for him.

Also like PP, my brother got married last August, and they had a daughter who was 13 months at the time. It was hard, but they made it work. She walkd down the aisle with the brides parents, so she wouldn't wander off in some other direction, and stood to the side with brides parents during start of ceremony. Then, her dad picked her up and they did a unity thing where they each had different colors of sand and they poured it all into a jar (mom and dad poured hers together since she couldn't really do it.) It was realy nice and she was a big part of the wedding but always had someone guiding where she should be. It was tough though grandparents had a hard time keeping her still and quiet, she wanted to walk around or go up by mom and dad, lol.

Is there another boy a few years older than your son who could be a ring bearer with him? I'm thinking someone around 5 years old could hold your son's hand and help him up the aisle. Plus, it would look really adorable.

I have seen several family unity ceremonies posted online, but they all seem geared towards stepfamilies/older kids (most of the ones I've seen either involve the whole family lighting a candle or something and/or everyone reciting something).

I agree with the bold part! Our daughter will be a bit over 3, and we still plan on her walking toegher with FI's niece who will be 7 at the time, just so that she doesn't get confused/scared.

I feel bad, but I disagree. Putting a child that young in front of a bunch of people during a wedding ceremony is a recipe for disaster. He could easily get flustered or frightened and end up scared and crying, even if you tether him to an "older" stranger. What would you do then? Have the older child run him over to a grandparent, or would you soothe him during your ceremony? Personally, I wouldn't choose to do that to my own child. I'd incorporate him into the reception, during the first dance, or something.

Have him carry a sign that says "here comes the bride" or something of that nature. I have seen some that say "daddy here comes mommy" and the pictures are really cute. He could walk next to your MOH if he is hang trouble.. That way he's involved but he doesn't have a ring to lose or candle to light!

My flower girl will be just under 2 y/o at the time of the wedding, the ringbearer we are thinking of will be 14mo. The flower girl's dad is the BM and the ringbearer's dad in a GM so I think they'll just go stand with them during the ceremony, or FG will go to mom after she walks down and RB will stay with the dad.
