Do you believe in signs or omens?

On our way to the courthouse to apply for our marriage license, and on the drive back home we passed THREE separate car accidents driving through town. We live in a relatively small town. I've lived here about four years and can't recall having seen any accidents until today.

I'm not a superstitious person however it just struck me as a little weird. I joked with FI that maybe it was a sign! I honesty don't believe that it was but it got me thinking.

Are any of you superstitious? If so, what about, and do you believe in signs?

Re: Do you believe in signs or omens?

  • I am superstitious, though usually only when it benefits me :) If it is a bad sign or omen, I become markedly less superstitious.

  • I am superstitious and I do believe in signs/omens, but I wouldn't have taken that to be a sign/omen, to be honest.

I'm one of those highly superstitious athletes. I had lucky underwear, always wore my hair a certain way for games, etc.
  • I'm not superstitious at all. I've never had lucky clothing items. (I do, however, strongly believe that if I go out of the house without makeup on that I will run into that one person I don't want to see, because it happens. every. time. But it's not quite the same thing.)

I had a friend whose favorite number was 21, so he'd jump whenever the microwave would count 2... 1... and weird things like that. He thought something bad would happen if he didn't. Now that I think about it, that sort of sounds like OCD, though; however, it didn't impact him negatively.

Every once in a while I'll get this sort of feeling like, oh no, that can't be good. Like a crow or a black cat or someone that looks shady on the train, but (and I'm not sure this is a good thing or a bad thing?) I'll just be like, oh f*ck it; if I die, I die. Lol.

  • I'm not supersticious as in, no walking under ladders or havin black cats cross my path. But I do believe in signs/omens being out there, if we're open to seeing them.

Sometimes I freak myself out thinking about how life works. For example, yesterday I was driving to work and the guy a couple lanes over decided he was going to spazz out and cut across all lanes. One second's difference in my timing and I would have been hit. So I started thinking, if Whisky hadn't given me an unusually hard time with his medicine before I left, if I'd been able to find my keys, etc - would that second have meant I was out the door faster and got hit?

I tend to go through all possible scenarios in my day. I annoy myself with it.
  • I do believe in signs--like Cfas explained, I don't think we always interpret them correctly, but I think there are little arrows pointing us the right way, whether it be a gut emotion or an actual event.

I wouldn't take the accidents as a sign, though ;)

I am not superstitious at all. Not in the least.

[QUOTE]I'm Italian. We're superstitious people. I don't walk under ladders, I throw spilled salt over my left shoulder, I don't open umbrellas in the house. No new shoes on the table or hats on the bed. In short, I'm kind of a lunatic.

I've never heard of these, but I have heard about not setting your purse on the ground.
