Tuesday Chat

Happy Tuesday!  Anyone have anything exciting going on?  I just got back last night from my little weekend beach trip, and am definitely missing the vacation lifestyle!!  H and I had a wonderful time.  Thursday I had all my lab work and such, and it was pure torture, of course.  I am not looking forward to the remaining bloodwork and ultrasounds this month.  Looks like all they found in my ultrasound last week was a ruptured cyst (which hurt like the dickens all summer, so I knew I had it).  From what I've read, though, one big cyst isn't really typical PCOS so I guess that's good?

Re: Tuesday Chat

  • Resa, I'm glad they're learning things from all the tests, though!  I think that's correct about the cyst.  My doctor told me I have (or had in June) polycystic ovaries, but stopped short of calling it PCOS.  I haven't had ruptured cysts, I just have all-the-same-size cysts.

Tonight H and I are going to try out a Mexican restaurant that's owned by the parents of one of my students.  =)  I'm kind of hoping the kiddo is there tonight!

  • Prof., I love Mexican -- that sounds fun and yummy! I know that there are specific diagnostic criteria that go into PCOS beyond polycystic ovaries. I don't remember what they are at the moment, but am guessing that's what was going on with your situation.

Resa, I'm also glad that they are learning -- every bit of info is helpful to solving the puzzle. Your weekend away sounds like it was lovely.

C and I are off to visit a friend the\is afternoon -- should be fun!

  • Yum on the Mexican food, that sounds great!  Resa - glad to hear you're on your way towards figuring everything out.  Your beach trip sounds like it was a great chance for relaxation in the midst of all this medical stuff!

AFM - not much going on today.  We have our "final" follow-up with our Creighton teacher tonight.  I say "final" b/c it's the last one we need in order to get our certificate, but I know we will definitely need to continue meeting with her for awhile yet.  My cycles are still pretty weird, but I'm hoping its just due to wedding stress and they'll normalize once the wedding is over.

It's NDSU's homecoming this weekend, so FI and I are really looking forward to the game!  It's so nice to have something non wedding-related to look forward to!
  • Resa,
Sorry to hear about all the torture you're going through. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end.

Mexican and friend visits sound nice!

Today is just a regular work day. I got a copy of JK Rowling's new book, so I'm reading that on my lunch break. I've heard mixed reviews on it, so we'll see.

Tomorrow night I have to go to a dinner with my co-workers hosted by Tamron, which is a camera lens company. Hoping the food is good. :)

I'm just waiting for my 3 day weekend to begin. Dance exam saturday evening, Sunday is a birthday party for my FI's niece, and then Monday is nothing. Glorious nothing.

  • In keeping with the food theme...Thursday evening I'm having dinner with my favorite professor from college (he's giving a talk here at my graduate school).  This is awesome for two reasons: one - it will be great to see him; he actually had a very profound impact on my life, being the main reason I entered the field of neuroscience.  And two - the school is reimbursing me for the cost, so free dinner!

  • So, y'all will appreciate this:

We were discussing the difference between facts, hypotheses, and theories in science, and a couple of my kids started arguing that things like the Big Bang theory and the theory of Evolution were impossible, and then one student declares that all scientists are anti-religious.  So I called him out on it and told him that I'm a proud Catholic and that many scientific advances came from Christians (not to mention that religious life was one of the only ways to get an education) and that to say scientists were anti-religious was not only untrue, it was unfair.

So then one girl asks what the difference is between "Catholic" and "Christian," which caused huge eyerolls around the room, but it was very cute to see my Catholic students instantly jump into an explanation of how Catholicism IS Christianity.

@Bibli, I agree -- I don't think I have PCOS (I believe there are some painful symptoms associated with PCOS that I thankfully don't have), I was just giving my story as an example.  =)
