You should look into Jillian Michaels' workout DVDs.  They're short, but effective, workouts that you can do at home.

  • I ditto the JM DVDs! I have the 30 Day Shred and it's kicking my arse.

It's a 25 minute workout and totally doable. I'm a single (I'll be marrying someone else) mom of a preschooler..... and OMG is he trouble!
Even I find time to do it. My kidlet likes to be my "waterboy," and if yours is still pretty tiny, I'm sure he or she would be most delighted laying on a blanket or in the swing and watching their mama bounce around and be silly.
  • Couch 2 5K (C25K) is great if you can get out of the house for about 30 minutes 3 times a week!
  • Do you have access to a jogging stroller?  Great way to exercise AND spend time with the baby!
  • i try as much as i can to do some power walking, but its nice to have some indoor options for days that outside isnt an option. thanks!

  • If you're looking to lose weight, watching your diet it the best way overall.  Sure, exercise is great.  But, monitoring your intake is the way to lose unwanted pounds.

Check out free sites like SparkPeople and MyFitnessPal.  They're great resources for determining how much you should be eating.
  • Cleaning up the diet is going to be 80% of your goals. Best advice I can give you is cut out anything white. Sugar, foods containing white flour, white rice, potatoes etc. replace them with whole grains.

  • Have you ever heard of 10 Minute Trainer? It's by Tony Horton the trainer in P90X. I've done that one, but the workouts are longer. I've heard this one is great or time constraints and very effective. You can do one 10 min workout or stack them when you have more time.
  • P90X and cut complex carbs. Fish, chicken, and veggies are your friend. Give yourself 1 cheat day a week, because if not you risk having binging sessions.

Dude, you realize fruits and veggies are complex carbs right?  Do you mean simple carbs?

And she said she doesn't have a lot of time.  P90X takes a lot of time.

    Helpful, you are not.

FYI J&K, Complex carbs are starches. Simple carbs are fruit, vegetables and dairy. So yes it was helpful. There is no quick way to lose weight won't pretty much guarentee the weight coming back. P90x is made as a 90 day program doing it every day. I'm not sure what is not a lot of time....but I wouldnt assume that 90 days is, especially not for a weight loss program. But thank for your lack of input.
  • You're absolutely right on the carbs, and I apologize.  But also important is a lot of refined sugar products (syrups, some candy) are also simple carbs.

And when she says she doesn't have a lot of time, I'm assuming she's talking hours in the day.  I'm one of the first people to preach about there being no quick fix, I understand that.  However, I assumed she's looking for short workouts, or things like eating habits that don't take much time out of her day.  60-90 minutes for a P90X workout is NOT "not much time" to most people, and that's what I was referencing.

  • I see what you're saying. . I understand not enough time in the day for sure! I've just seen the program work for a lot of friends! Smile
