To Veil or Not To Veil?

So, I kind of have my heart set on wearing an elbow length veil for my ceremony. Only thing is, one of my bridemaids pointed out that our ceremony takes place in a park right on the water and wind is a likelihood. She says that they wind will blow my veil around like crazy and straight up in the air and in my grooms face and basically everywhere I don't want it to go and ruin the pictures/moments. The amount of wind really varies on the day and time; some days it's mild some days it's pretty gusty. We're crossing fingers. Anyhow, now I am torn on whether I should wear a veil? I would hate for it to be super windy and fly everywhere, but then again, if it turns out to be a mild day I feel like I might regret not having the veil. The veil makes me feel so bridal. Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?

  • Do you have one picked out and is it inexpensive enough that you could purchase it and make the decision when it is closer so you will know more what kind of weather you will have that day?
And maybe if you don't wear it for the ceremony maybe you could wear it for pictures?

  • One of my bridesmaids was married last year in an outside ceremony right next to a lake.  She had a long veil, and there was no problem during the ceremony with it blowing inappropriately.  I think you'll be fine.

  • I don't have a specific one picked out yet. I did see one that I am leaning towards and it's just under $100. I guess if I keep the veil under $100 then I could always take it off if when we get there it is too windy..right?

  • I work part time for an outdoor wedding facility near a large pond.  It can get pretty windy, and I've never seen a veil get blown the way your BM described.  There are different ways to style a veil, so maybe your hairstylist will have more direction on some good placements for it in your hair.

  • Yeah, we are on the ocean (not on the sand) so the wind can get pretty gusty. I was planning on wearing it low on the back of my head, just above my low bun so maybe that will make a difference. I'll see if my hairdresser has any good suggestions. =)

  • I am getting married on the water too, and I still bought a veil. I will even be pulling up by boat, so I know it will be blowing then. I hope it is just a gorgeous day, if not I trust my MOH to take care of it during the ceremony. Tuck it in to the back of my dress or just hold it down. LOL
