Really good blog post about avoiding wedding day regrets

I am not sure why, but a few of these really resonated with me, and I thought you guys might want to read it too: http://hellogiggles.com/6-tips-for-avoiding-wedding-day-regrets

I hadn't thought about me and fiance doing a quick thank you at the reception, but it definitely seems like it might be a good idea....had anyone else thought about this???

Re: Really good blog post about avoiding wedding day regrets

  • I haven't read the blog yet but I think I do want to give a little speech after the MOH and BM toasts at the reception. I'll have to keep my part short and sweet so I don't cry all over myself, but I think it'd be a nice moment for everyone.

  • Some good tips.  Our wedding is really small so I will probably just thanks people individually and tell them how happy we are that they were there for us.  FI and I are not big on public speaking.
  • Good freaking lord, I teared up just READING the part about the thank you speech. I am doomed.

  • Yes, ceglare, that was my concern too (sobbing and getting awkward while trying to say a quick thank you)....but I love the idea of it, for sure.

  • Great list. I did think about giving a little thank you speech. Every wedding I've been to the bride and groom thanked everyone so we're going to do the same. At my shower this past Sunday I gave a thank you speech as well so it will probably be very similar..short and sweet (:

  • Hmm I have always seen the B+G do ty's at the RD, not the reception. If we do it at the reception, I will let my FI/husband do most of the talking! He is much better with public speaking than I am.

BMore; I have seen it both ways....we will have a lot of people traveling who will be at the reception, but not the rehearsal, so it might be really nice to do a quick thank you at both events....yikes, makes me nervie, but might mean a lot to some people.
  • Great list - thanks for posting it!

FI and I are giving a little thank you speech prior to the toasts, just in case we miss someone while doing our table rounds.  We haven't decide if I'll speak or if FI will... I'm leaning towards FI, because I'll def end up a blubbering mess within the first 5 words.

We've also agreed to go around to each table together, instead of individually, because I was always told people enjoy seeing the B&G together.

I didn't eat during my shower this past weekend and regretted it by the end of the party.  I was so nauseous and dizzy.

  • I liked that article.  FI is not comfortable talking in front of a lot of people even though he is a teacher.  If we did that I would be the one to have to do it and I am already nervous enough about saying my vows!!  Maybe that will be a game time decision.

  • Bmore, our RD is very small, just the WP, our parents, and our grandparents. They are obv the ones that payed for the wedding, stood up for us, and/or traveled for our wedding, but we do also want to thank all the guests for coming. And my coworker is helping my MOH to plan my B-party so I definitely want to thank her at the reception.

  • k8888: that's our plan too, hit the tables up together. That way, I can introduce FI to the peeps he hasn't met before, and vice versa. As a guest, I like it when couples go around together too.

UGH I will also be a blubbering mess if I do the thank you. Fiance is probably not capable of a 30 second speech, so if we do it, I will be the one speaking. Just thinking about it gives me tummy palpitations.
  • Ugh, another thing we have to plan? Another speech? Seriously?

I am SO over this wedding today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, I can see the reasoning for doing it at the reception. Our RD is like a second (or pre) wedding though, so I think all of the ppl we really need to thank will be there. I might just prefer to get it out of the way then, b/c I already foresee myself being nervous enough at the reception about the first dance lol.

We are planning to do this, too. I guess that's why so many couples say they don't have a chance to eat at their reception??

  • Oh we are totally hitting up the tables together too. I'm going to be nervous that day and FI is SO much better at chatting with people, even if he doesn't know them. I know everyone we've invited to the wedding, but some not as great as others. FI is a good buffer for me when I'm around people I'm not super comfortable with.

And bmore, don't even get me started on the first dance. I think that is the one thing I'm the most nervous for.

  • Thanks for sharing! FI wanted to do a TY speech at some point.  I like ceglare's idea of doing it right after the MOH and BM speeches.  My cousin and his wife said TY at the end of the night, so that's another option too.

  • Like all of you I'm stressing about giving a TY in front of that many people- maybe I'll see if FI can do it, he's much more comfortable with that kind of thing.

I liked the last part of the article- where it suggested seeing one another before the ceremony.  I don't care that it's bad luck, I know I'm going to be a stressball and seeing him for a second before walking down the aisle will calm my nerves.  It totally reassured me that doing the first look is the right thing for us.
