Recommendation on reception in Columbus hotel? Ceremony in Franklin conservatory..

We have many out of town friends and families so we are thinking to have our reception in a hotel. Do you have any recommendation on which hotel is good? For the ceremony we are thinking to do it in Franklin conservatory, I heard its nice but we have never been there...any thoughts?

Re: Recommendation on reception in Columbus hotel? Ceremony in Franklin conservatory..

  • I'm having ceremony & reception at the Conservatory  :)  It's lovely there and I can't wait!

Do you have any guidelines as to your budget?  That will help with choosing your location(s).  The Westin is lovely but has a $15,000 minimum (I believe) for Saturdays, whereas the Renaissance or Hyatt would probably be less.  There's all kinds of options... what are you looking for?
  • Nice! Are you having your reception in the palm house? I'm looking forward to talk to the sales next week! Hopefully they still have saturday available.. We are looking at any saturday in September or October 2012. Our budget for meals and drinks is about 10k +/- 2k.
  • I went to a wedding at FPC this past spring.  I guess the ceremony was originally supposed to be outside but they moved it into the palm house because it rained that morning.  It was late April and 11 AM but as soon as the sun came out, that place heats up!  Just a warning if you are planning anything in the day during the summer.  The reception was also in the palm house.  It definitely is a nice setting and would save you on decorations!

  • Perhaps you could have your reception at the Conservatory too, that way your guest don't have to travel at all! The conservatory is HUGE, and you could easily tell your guest to enjoy the gardens themselves while you guys take pictures (tickets to the exhibits are included when you book it, I believe).

There aren't any hotels in the area that I can think of that one would want to hold a reception in (at least not that are an easy drive for out of town guests). I can't think of any in the Bexley or old town east area, and if there are hotels in between 670 and 70 they aren't the type you would stay in to show your guests a good time.

There are a good number downtown (about ten minutes west on broad) but they are exspensive. 15 min east of Broad there are hotels, but not the type you would hold a function at (I doubt they'd have large ball rooms anyhow). Those may be a reasonable price for your guest to stay at ,though.
  • Thanks for all the replies :)

I called Franklin park and they dont have the palm house evening available until Nov 2011 :(.  We have out of town friends and families so I think it would be easier for them to go to the reception and stay a night. So far I looked at Renaissance and Hyatt Regency in downtown, we haven't cheked them out in person but will go this weekend!

  • That sucks about the Palm house!

depending on your budget, I second the westin being beautiful (but I also second it being exspensive!).

I looked at the Hyatt Regency and renaissance too, I never got anything useful from the regency, and the renaissance package was too exspenive for me, but they were very easy to work with, so that's a definate plus!
  • Based on your budget I think the Hyatt would work well for you. But I encourage you to consider other downtown venues, like the Capital Club, that are within close walking distance of a hotel.

<div>Consider it a blessing - you probably wouldn't love the Palm House in September anyway... it can be WAY too hot!!!!  Like, sweltering hot.  I went to a wedding there in July and everyone was miserable.  I'm hoping May isn't too bad though.  You might want to consider November!  It'd be very nice there I'm sure.</div><div>
</div><div>I agree with others though - I'd try to have everything in one spot since the Conservatory isn't really close to any great hotels for receptions.  Capital Club seems to have a great wedding package and is close to hotels, as does the Athletic Club - but I think that's a little pricey if I recall.</div><div>
</div><div>How many people are you considering?  </div>
  • We have heard many comments about the humidity and weather in palm house in September.. We are now considering end of October (20th or 27th). Hopefully they still have availability on the date we are considering. Since we have many out of town friends and families so we will do the reception in the hotel.. We have about 160 guests. Hyatt minimum is 7k, Renaissance minimum is 12k and Westin minimum is 15k. We might need to increase the budget due to number of people we are inviting.
