Make-up artist for women of color

Can anybody recommend a make-up artist who has experience with women of color?

Thanks!

Are you only looking for day-of services?  I couldn't really find any day-of artists I was comfortable with, so I found a Mary Kay consultant who knew what she was doing.  If all else fails, it's a great route to take.

Hi, Cynthia.   Yes, I'm looking for day-of-services.  I found a place called Gabrielle's Salon and Day Spa that I am going to try.  Do you have any experience with them?  Also, would you recommend the person who did your make-up?  If so, would you be willing to pass along their contact info?

    Thanks!

Yay for Gabrielle's! That's where I go and I JUST had my hair done last night there for my engagement photos this morning. They have wedding package specials on their website. I'll be using them for my wedding- my hair stylist is Valerie but I don't know who will be doing my makeup yet.

I don't have personal experience with them, but have heard good things about them!

The lady that did my makeup was Jolie Generalov, 512-750-1725.  I am a complete amateur when it comes to makeup, and with an oily skin tone I hate the stuff.  But within an hour of her being here (I did a little party for me and my bridesmaids), I was all glammed-up like a pro and I'd done it all myself.  It looked great and stayed put for hours.  Hope this helps you a little.  Good Luck!

Ctkairos- we have the same wedding date which seems to be pretty rare around here in Austin (every vendor we've talked to has been wide open on 12/4). Where are you getting married?

    How cool is that?  :)

It came down to two places.  I pretty much fell in love with Bella Notte in Round Rock, but their main room was already booked on our date, leaving us with our second choice, Villa St. Clair.

Best laid plans and all that, because I couldn't be happier with the venue and staff there.  It's the downseason for weddings so we're getting half-off the rental fee there.  Plus, they do catering (yuuuummy) and floral (preeeeety) in-house, so that's a lot of legwork I didn't have to do.  We also got some good deals on photography and other stuff just because of the December date!  Are you all set up with your vendors too?

Thanks for the information and the vote of confidence for Gabrielle's!  I live in Houston with no ties to Austin at all, so this is all really helpful for me!

    Thanks!

If you're still looking...a very good friend of mine is an independent make-up artist.  She has work experience with people of color as she was a make-up artist for The Lion King.  She also has experience with weddings.  If you would like her number, just PM me and I will get it for you.

I'm using Rochelle Rae and she's very good and has her own cosmetics line.  I've seen women of color in her online portfolio, and she's been doing this for decades so I'd imagine she has experience working on all types of skin color and tone.
