In Lieu of Flowers...

So we have a VERY small budget, and a VERY large wedding party... After talking with the florist, we found out that our entire floral budget would basically go to the bouquets. Originally, I thought of everyone carrying little vintage clutches or something of the sort instead of flowers, but I'm having a hard time finding affordable clutches. I also thought of just carrying a single lily with a long stem. Does anyone have ideas on things to carry instead of flowers?? *The BMs will also have flower hair pieces, so I don't want to go overboard with flowers.

Everyone loves a bridesmaid with a parasol, or bouquets made out of other items, such as paper flowers or round Xmas tree ornaments wired to a stem. Meaningful books, fans as PP said and even feather fans, and you're right that a single lily would look very nice. I don't even think they need to carry anything at all.
  • I think one beautiful large rose or calla lilly would look very pretty.

How about making fabric rose bouquets like these

Here is a picture of a bouquet I was saving because I thought it was so pretty. You could make these fabric flowers and construct the bouquets yourself.

  • How about nosegays instead of bouquets?  That way you'd get the flowers you wanted, but not the pricetag.

  • We are doing small nosegays and they are 20.00 each from a florist.

What theme or time period are you doing? I agree that something different like a small fan would be cute. I love the paper flowers too! What about a button bouquet like these?

  • Just beware that some of the flower alternatives cost just as much or even more than flowers. I would probably do a single flower or nosegay.

  • I made my bouquet and the girls' bouquets for very little money.  All are artificial hydrangeas and I am wrapping each in a vintage hankie.  First three are the bridesmaids, last one is mine.

  • offbeatbride.com has a whole thread about this. hang on...

    Some of these are amazing!
  • I love Etsy for clutches.  PM some of them for mutliple item discounts.  I love the single stem look, personally... I went to a wedding that did single orchid colored calla lilies.. so pretty.  Clutches, fan, parasols... anything goes... i've seen baskets with a few free stems haphazardly sticking out at a more rustic wedding. Super cute.

  • I HAVE SEEN BRIDESMAIDS CARRY LANTERNS ( DEPENDS ON YOUR TIME OF DAY)
BUT DO BABYS BREATH BOUQUETS- SOOOO CHEAP- SO CUTE ( CAN LOOK VER VINTAGE) AND YOU CAN DO THEM YOURSELF- ORDER THEM FROM SAMS OR COSTCO

  • My sister-in-law had her bridesmaids carry lanterns and it was awesome. My flower girl will be carrying a lantern instead of a flower basket.

  • I think the lantern idea is adorable, but we're having a morning wedding and I'm not sure lanterns would be appropriate...  But I am in LOVE with the button bouquets!! I saw a lot of DIYs out there... I'll have to play around with them until I get the look just right! Too cute! Thanks everyone for the ideas!!!
