Happy New Year!

When I was single, I always went out somewhere for New Year's with my friends.  We would usually go to a party with dancing/food but one year we did a First Night (I just about froze and we never did that again).

Now that I'm married, things are much different.  I believe I will stay up to watch the ball drop but as I type this, Joe is on the floor taking a nap (he's been sleeping for about 2 1/2 hours now) and I'm not sure he is going to wake up by midnight.

I hope you all have a Happy New Year's Eve and that some of you are out on the town having fun with your BFs/FIs/DHs.

Any predictions for 2012?

Re: Happy New Year!

  • Thanks! We rang in the new year with a snowball fight. Many, many dreams for the new year :)

  • Happy New Year everyone!!

I didn't do anything exciting. I was working until 10:30.  I missed Ryan's New Year (since he's in India, he was in 2012 ten 1/2 hours before I was!), so it was important we didn't miss mine.  So I got on the phone with him for midnight... but that's really it. Otherwise I just watched tv and ate a hamburger with Mom and Dad.  Not exciting, but not bad either!

  • Happy New Year! We went to a friend's and played games. We had a lot of fun, but it was different than what I am used to because my whole life we have banged pots and pans, used noisemakers and went outside to yell happy new year. This year, everyone kind of said it quietly or not at all. Nevertheless, it was a very nice time.
  • We grabbed Qdoba, some sparkling cider, gluten free crackers with cheese and meat, and tortilla chips with salsa before heading back to the apartment and spent the evening cuddled on the couch watching movies and snacking. Neither one of us are big party people so it was perfect!

  • Happy New Year! We had a little get together at my parent's house.  At midnight we set off some fireworks and then we all went home and went to bed.  It was perfect for us!
  • Happy New Year everyone!

We went over a couples house from church and played "minute to win it" games. It was a lot of fun. We all had noise makers and confetti to throw when it was midnight. FI almost made me swoon when he told me how excited he was that it was our year to get married. Kiss

  • Happy New Year everyone! We went to FMIL's house for a gathering of family and friends, kids included. It was a lot of fun - learned however that my 4 year old niece's second wind is SCARY hahaha, never seen such a quiet child get SO spun... lol
  • Happy New Year!  I made stuffing and roasted 3 lbs of red potatoes for NYE dinner at a friends' house.  I was a little nervous because I'd never never used the potato recipe before, and I used olive oil instead of margarine/butter for the stuffing, but they both turned out well.  The food everyone else brought was really good too!  We left early at 9:50 to meet up with DH's family for 10PM fireworks.  Then I went and took at nap before midnight fireworks.  It was soo hard to get up.  Anyone else struggle with being aswake at midnight?

  • My NYEs are never exciting - New Years Day is my grandparents anniversary, so we usually have a huge (50 people) party for them.  This year that was on New Years Eve afternoon - they've been married 65 years!  It's a busy day, since my grandparents have 20 great-grandchildren all under the age of 8.  I had a cold and was worn out from the party, so I went to bed at 9:50.  I felt a little bad leaving FI sitting up with my dad (we were staying at my parents house) while I went to bed early.  He was more worried about me feeling better, though, so he was glad I could get extra sleep.
  • We went to bed and didn't stay up until midnight. However, so it doesn't seem like we are a bunch of boring people, we stayed up very late the night before and had to get up early to drive 3.5 hours.

  • Happy New Year ladies! We had a fun night out, but I told DH that was our last year of going out on New Years. If we're not expecting a baby this time next year, I'd like to host a party at our house or have a few friends over instead. I'm over the whole going out on New Years thing, but like I said in an earlier post, we're still getting to know people here and were happy to be invited out so we weren't going to decline the invitation.

I'm also not looking forward to extra time off for a while. We've had so many long weekends lately that we've been spoiled. Back to the grind..
  • Jenn - I'm a night owl so I can stay up at midnight with no problems!

yodacub - congrats to your grandparents!  My grandparents were married on 1/1 too and for many years we spent the week after Christmas with them and stayed until their Anniversary (we didn't live nearby).  I love those memories.  Their last anniversary was #70 and my grandpa died that year.  This year would have been 75 (grandma is still living - she is almost 92).  It's so amazing to see a couple live to their 65th and I wish them many more.
