escort card names

I have a few guests who didnt write their guests name, but RSVP'ed for 2.

on their escort card can I just write "Bob Smith's Guest"?

the people who didnt write names are people we dont talk to everyday and it would be awkward to just call them for that.

I would call, even if you don't normally talk to them very much. We had to call many relatives we don't call on a regular basis for RSVP questions and other things wedding-related. If you absolutely can't get a hold of them, I think as a last resort, I'd do "Bob Smith and Guest," but I would much prefer to get the person's actual name.

Why would it be awkward?  It's a reasonable question.  "Hi Bob, it's Amanda.....I'm so happy that you'll be celebrating our big day with us.  I noticed you RSVP'd for a guest.  May I have that person's name so we can write it on their escort card?"

Writing Bob Smith's Guest looks extremely awkward and impersonal.  I would be embarrassed if I were Bob's guest and I didn't even get an escot card with my name.  Make the effort to get the name of the guest.
