Bridal Shower

Is everyone planning their own bridal shower?  Is anyone not having a shower?  I know that sometimes your family or someone from your bridal party may have the shower for you. I really don't understand the point of the shower.  I heard people say back in the day it was mostly for people that are still living with their parents and may need a lot of things for her new home.  I feel kind of bad that people will have to buy me something for my shower and my wedding.  Do I really need a shower?  My FI and I have lived together for over 7 years now.

    I did not plan my own shower per se..My Matron of honor did, but I let my opinion be known on different aspects..I dont live with my mom and havent since high school..a couple of moons ago (im 30). I own my home, so I have the 2 slice toaster and such, but the upgrades are nice..People dont have to buy two gifts,..people just bought things off our registry..I got a 4 slice toaster, wine glasses, towels, and such. You dont HAVE to have a shower, its just a really nice gesture from those that love you to "shower you with gifts", but if you dont feel comfortable, skip it..no biggie..

  • I always thought you usually just got lingerie at your shower?
  • According to the E board you are not supposed to throw your own shower..lol that damn E board...someone else is supposed to plan one for you but where I'm from if you want such a thing and you put it together yourself you won't get scorned for doing so ! I say if you do have one maybe there is something u would like to upgrade on and would register for that maybe just have a bridal get together just to get everybody together or like other pp and just don't do nothing...its not a must.

  • I did not want a shower however some of my friends and my mom's friends said they wanted to honor me.  So that's why i had a shower.  We used it as a time to upgrade our items anything we got was appreciated but I think the main point of the shower was to spend time with people who want to honor you.

    <div>
    </div><div>The type of shower you have depends on your audience and who is hosting it. There are many themes to a bridal shower. Traditionally, as others have mentioned, the shower was intended to "shower" the bride with gifts for her new home. Mostly because the bride was indeed still living at home with her parents and probably needed lots of stuff for a new home. So in addition to a lingerie themed shower, you could also have a recipe shower where guests are just asked to bring the favorite recipes, you could have a "stock the pantry" shower (<a href="http://www.amazingbridalshowers.com/themes/stock-the-pantry-shower/)" rel="nofollow">http://www.amazingbridalshowers.com/themes/stock-the-pantry-shower/)</a> etc. So a shower doesn't not necessarily have to be about gifts, it could be just about making the bride feel special leading up to her special day surrounded by her closest friends and family. But as PPs said, if you don't want a shower, then don't have one. But if someone offers to host one for you, certainly consider it. </div>

  • I made it known that I absolutely did not want a shower. However, my BP has decided to give me one next month. It was supposed to be a surprise in the beginning, but I ended up finding out about it, and since then I've been throwing in my opinions here and there when asked. Like you, I was kind of confused about the whole shower thing in the beginning. The gifts really didn't matter to me, because I'm the type of person that if I want something I get it for myself. However, my MOH told me to "get over it" because their throwing me a shower whether I like it or not. I am interested to see how this is going to work.

    I'm not planning my own. I actually have no clue what the plan is. I know my aunts are planning one and my BM are doing another.  It depends on the type of shower.  Showers have evolved so much now, that they have themes. For example, you could have a lingerie shower, or a date night shower, or an around the clock shower which basically your guests would get a time of day and bring housewares for that time of day or something like that.

  • Thanks ladies didn't know showers had so many themes. I will probably help plan mine. I want a big hat theme!
  • Yeah, I hate the E board because I was clueless until a few weeks ago about showers. I thought I had to pay and ask someone to host. So I did assign the task to my Matron of Honor. I am freaking out now because now she has to pay for it, which she is cool with, but still.

    ...I'm not planning it, but I am giving my MOH a vision for my shower, which is shower me with prayer and marriage wisdom. I'm really not into people buying another gift, but they will. But I want most of all to have wise women who I love in my life coming together in prayer and giving me advice, sharing stories. I just see it as this powerful moment in my life that will set the course of my new journey in life. My MOH is really excited about organizing this type of shower for me.
