AH!

So, the salon where the BMs, my Mom, me and possibly FMIL are getting everything done at opens at 9am. This is scary to me. Our ceremony is at 1pm. Here's the math, and why I think it's scary:

1 Bride
1 MOB
1 MOH
3 BMs
1 FMIL (?)
2 Stylists
3.50 hours

My hair is INCREDIBLY hard to work with (every time I see a new stylist, they literally complain about the thickness). I will easily take up an hour and a half, if not more. I also want to have my makeup done. Okay, so that's two hours, maybe. However, that means that the stylist doing my hair will be stuck on mine, leaving the other stylist to do my mom, my MOH, and everyone else until the stylist doing mine is freed up. If she messes it up, or my hair figures that it wants to be nightmare-ish (known to happen, trust me), the other stylist may end up doing all the girls. We want to be at the ceremony venue half an hour before the ceremony so we can have a breather and be ready.

My question, does anyone have any advice? Is this not that bad, and I'm just overreacting? Also, to cut down on time, should I get them to do my makeup while they do my hair? AH!!!!

Re: AH!

  • Is there any possible way to get a 3rd stylist?  I am also a victim of ridiculously thick and uncooperative hair, so I hear your pain...

Is the makeup artist your hair stylist or a separate person?  It may be possible to do hair and makeup at the same time if they are separate people, but I still wouldn't really recommend it...how you hold your head for someone to style your hair is different from how you need to hold it to have makeup done.

Would your stylists entertain the idea of maybe opening earlier than 9 for your group?  Some salons will do that for large/time consuming groups like bridal parties.
  • Have you discussed your concerns with the salon? They should have a pretty good idea of what they can handle and see if there is anything else they can do to be ready. If they know their timeframe and are confident they can pull it off, I would trust them.

  • Makeup for everyone EXCEPT the bride can be done in about 30 mins. The bride's M/U is usually an hour. That's just makeup... I'd strongly suggest having 2 M/U artists, and 2 hair stylist.

  • I recommend talking to them, but based on my own experience, I think you need at least one more stylist. My stylist asked for what I thought was a ridiculous amount of buffer, but we used all the time and were 15min late leaving for the venue (fortunately, I built buffer there, too). It took 6 hours to do hair for me, 3 BMs and 1 FG. We did our own makeup.

My hair just wasn't going right, even though I'd had a trial. It took at least two hours.
