Outdoor Venue Suggestion?

I am looking for suggestions for an affordable Outdoor venue near Houston.

We prefer ceremony and reception at same location. We are hoping for some trees.
Appx. 75 guests.
Planning for April 2013.

We have visited a winery that we fell in love with, but we are concerned about cost ($12K includes everything except invitations, dress & photog) and distance traveled for some of our guests. It is over an hour outside of Houston, and would be 2 hours for parents of groom.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!
Thank you!

  • Try www.townhalltexas.com - western venue in The Woodlands/Conroe market area!

  • We were married at Bentwater Yacht Club. There ceremony was outside at the Gazebo looking over Lake Conroe, and the reception was inside that had huge windows over looking the lake. THe price wasn't bad for all that was included. We had around 75, and stuck with a buffet and had open wine and beer bar, spent around $5500 for a Friday wedding.
  • Tranquila ranch is super affordable b/c you can bring in your own catering and alcohol. They have a large venue and a small one that would probably fit your guests and your needs. There's some beautiful pictures on their facebook of a couple getting married under a beautiful tree.

  • Another all inclusive option is Shirley Acres. www.shirleyacres.com

You are looking at around 8 K but it includes EVERYTHING. The only think I cannot remember is if they have a minimum for guests. We looked at that winery too and it was nice but very expensive. Shirley Acres covers venue and reception and includes wedding and grooms cake, food, horderves if you want them, a champagne toast for everyone, security, dj, alcohol, fresh floral centerpieces, all table linens and plates flatware etc. Basically the only thing it doesn't include is invitations and a photographer. (well and then the obvious stuff, dress tuxes etc). We are having our wedding here in Dec. 2013.

  • Check out Oak Tree Manor - that's where we're getting married in November. Suuuper pretty with huge old oak trees, it's easy to do ceremony and reception there (ceremony under the trees, reception inside their brand-new reception hall or outdoors under the trees), and affordable. I think you can definitely stay below $12,000, especially since you don't have too big of a guest list. They are also letting us bring our own alcohol.
  • I looked into Oak Tree Manor when I was looking for venues. My quote for approximately 75 people was around $7,400 to get married under their tree. That includes the venue, food, non alcoholic drinks, servers, gratuity, linens and parking. You can bring in your own alcohol. However, this is all for a Friday evening or a Sunday. They will not do weddings of less than 100 on a Saturday night. If you are open to a Friday, this might be an option for you.

If you decide you want the info, let me know. I still have her quote and can email it to you. It took FOREVER for them to get back to me via e-mail. HTH!

  • Awesome, thanks a bunch for all the suggestions and keep them coming! I will research all.

I previously looked into Kemah Gardens, & even though it is much closer to groom's parents, I don't think it's quite right for us.

Oak Tree Manor & the other suggestions sound exciting; I will look into them asap.

Thanks again for the suggestions! Keep 'em coming!

I'm going to throw the Houston Zoo into the hat, but I'm a tad biased because I used to work there. You can have a ceremony (and reception) right near the reflection pond which is great durring a summer evening. Or if you want to move inside after the ceremony you can have the reception inside one of the exhibit buildings. It's a pretty unique venue, but I guess you really do have to like animals. :) I'm not sure about prices, but they have all sorts of packages.

Another though is the Rienzi in River Oaks which is owned by MFAH. It's basically a mansion on River Oaks Blvd. that was turned into a museum, but they have amazing grounds with a pool and gardens and trees. It's very very nice. I don't know if they rent it out, but I know they have events there.

Hope that helps! I lived in Houston for 4 years and just moved last August. I just wanted to drop in on a board with some activity. I'm on the Vermont and Canada boards and we go like months between posts.

  • I'm getting married at Amber Springs - Stonebrook Hall, it has a BEAUTIFUL outdoor area with lots of trees and a great reception hall. Only downfall is its about $5,000 and they don't do much of anything, don't even set up the tables and chairs for you. You either have to hire someone or have your friends/family help. You also have to bring in all of your vendors. Thought this was going to be great since I could get exactly what I wanted with no rules but ended up being more expensive. I would recommend somewhere that includes more than just the facility.
  • Also - Brenner's on the Bayou has a GREAT outdoor area, could probably accomodate 75.
  • Thanks, guys! Hobie, you cracked me up....stuck in Vermont with no wedding activity. ;) I

I love the museum; we will have to check their prices. One of the venues we were originally interested in is the Houston Museum of Natural Science. We are both geeks, and the Butterfly exhibit would be lovely, as would be the planetarium. I am concerned since the cost of venue alone was several thousand, & didn't include anything.

I wish I weren't so frugal! It's just hard to let myself spend money on a wedding when we could use it towards a home or our future children!

  • Seriously! It's funny because every venue I looked at in Vermont was booked for like two years out...so where are all those people? And the posts are so lame (seamstress help, makeup artists, blah blah blah).

Anyway, I also worked at HMNS for a bit, so If you have any questions there I *may* be able to answer them. No guarantees though.

  • We are having our wedding at 5226 Elm. It was in our range of affordable. You can do an outdoor ceremony and reception if you like.
