August 2012 Weddings

Uh Oh

So my wedding shoes are very slippery! Even on the carpet. Well I was advised
to wear them outside and walk around. Well I was wearing them in our back
yard and I was walking back and forth....I was turning on them and I looked
at the bottom of the shoe and there are scratches! Which I expected but it
is scratched and showing like a cardboard brown? I have never had this
happen before even on heels I wear outside all the time!!! I don't know
what to do! I got them from DSW, I called and they said I can bring them
in and let them see if they are able to do anything for me..... I feel like
such an idiot! I don't think they should scratch and show a card board
looking bottom! The bottom of the shoe is black.

Do you think this should have happened?? Am I at fault?

Re: Uh Oh

  • Hate to say it, but it kinda sounds like they sold you a cheap pair of shoes at a not-so-cheap price. They are very pretty, though. :) Of course it's not your fault! Imagine if it was The Big Day and you had to do a lot of walking over gravel or something? Smart brides break in their shoes ahead of time (even if it means blisters and bleeding for me, apparently), so no, not your fault. If for whatever reason they say they can't help you (and don't be afraid to get all bridezilla on them, these shoes are kinda important and you don't have much time to order another pair), then maybe take them to a cobbler and see if it's possible to have them re-soled or have a bulkier, non-slippery sole put on top of the existing one.
    Good luck!

  • Thank you! I am so upset! I do not know what to do, I looked for shoes for months! I will have to see how expensive it is to get them re-soled. I will also see what DSW will do, I just don't have time to find another pair of shoes!
  • I bought those same shoes in black and they are very slippery.  Just buy these non-slip pads at walmart or walgreens and you'll be good to go, I wouldn't even get DSW involved.

  • I am wearing those same shoes also from dsw in navy. I have been wearing them since march without it scratching.
  • Those types of bottoms typically get really scratched and it would show a different color (like cardboard) so this is common but they still might be a bit cheaply made.

  • I decided to bring them to a shoe repair place to get a non slip sole. It will cover the ugly scratches. He said that since they are leather based they just have one thin coat that is on the bottom. It is not rare for these kinds of shoes to do this. He said he places these soles on these types of shoes all the time. It will only cost $15 and they will be done on Wednesday so I will have plenty of time! I wish I had known about this type of shoe bottom. I will now pay attention when I purchase heels!
