Searching for Dresses

Hey Girls,

I am still searching for my gown.  I have seen a couple that I like, but nothing that I really said "wow I really like this one" it could be that I am just not that into it.   I have been to several stores in the Union county area.  Does anyone have any recommedations in Monmouth County? I am looking for something with straps (ideally not strapless with the option of adding something) and not a lot of "pouf".  The store I am leaning towards here in Union County said if I saw something I really liked somewhere else they could order it for me.   I am already sick of searching! lol..

Thanks!!

Are there any designers you specifically like? What is your budget?

I have tried on sooooo many dresses, and only one was strapless, ranging from $599 at David's Bridal to around $7000 by designers such as Peter Langner.

Try Allure Couture, Allure, Alvina Valenta, Christos, and Paloma Blanca. Each of those have many options that are similar to what you described.

Like you, I had a pretty difficult time finding "the one." It wasn't until I had tried on a ridiculous number of dresses that it really occurred to me what I actually wanted. Many were "nice" but I finally found the one that made me say "wow."

Unfortunately, I really only visited stores in Bergen county, but you can look at gowns online, and then visit stores to see them in person. Good luck!  :)

Edited cuase I had to post before finishing my thoughts...

  • I know how frustrating it can be searching for a dress.  I went to 11 shops before I finally found my dress.  I eventually got my dress at Castle Couture in Malboro which was one of the last shops I went to, but had one of the best experiences.  In addition to being a beautiful store, they had one of the biggest selection of dresses and I felt had a good variety of designers.  It's really a great store and I recommend checking it out.  Plus they are constantly having trunk shows.  Down the street from Castle Couture is Hearts for You which I also had a good experience at but just didn't find the one there.  Barefoot Bride in Red Bank has a decent selection as well.  I don't recommend True Love Bridal in Matawan- it's so small and cramped in there and all the dresses are shoved on to the racks that it's impossible to find anything in that shop.

  • I agree with agu101.
I also found my dress at Castle Couture.
I had a great experience there and the shop is really beautiful.
    I highly recommend it.
    Good luck to you!

  • Thanks! I think we want to stay under $2500 ideally.  I don't care about designers honestly...I can't tell one from the other...I am giving up looking online because they never have them in the stores.  Does anyone know the hours of castle couture? My other problem is that it seems most places don't open til 11, and I have to be at work at 2:30, and don't get home til 6:30.  So I either don't have enough time in the morning or not enough time when I get home!
  • castle couture is very nice.  i ended up getting my dress at jaehee bridal up in englewood, it's about an hours drive from me, but closer to you if you live in union county.  they have an amazing selection, they even have a sample sale coming up right after thanksgiving.  i got my dress there, and just went for my second fitting and the alterations came out amazingly well.  my dress was taken it, taken up several inches (i'm short), and lowered the neckline almost an inch.  i love the hell out of my dress, did not want to take it off.
  • I used Hearts for You.  I know they moved to a larger bldg recently - they were just south of Kohls on Rt 9 in Manalapan/Englishtown.  I loved everyone there & they don't push price tags on you - they didn't care if I bought a $500 dress or $3000 dress - as long as it looked good on me.

I was the MOH in my best friends wedding & everyone got their dresses from Castle Couture - great selection, but all of us had issues with the alterations lady.  If you buy there, take it elsewhere to get it altered.  My dress was ordered way too big for me (should have gotten a 4 or 6 & they ordered me a 10) & I only go up & down in weight maybe a pound or 2 tops.  They could not take it in enough in the sides & eventually had to take it in at the zipper - which in turn caused a bump right above my butt.  My dress was around $300 w/o alterations - seamstress was almost $150 for length, sides & cups put in.  I was expecting perfection on the fit after all this money.  It was a very expensive dress - that was still falling down the day of the wedding.  Thank God I had removable straps put in that I used during the reception to hold it up.  I think if they ordered me the correct size (probably the 6) it would have fit perfect!!!  I hate when they measure up like that so the seamstress gets to make $ - it is such a scam...
