Where is your ring insured?

Zimsgirl's question reminded I still need to get my ring insured.  I've heard good things about Jewelersmutual, but to insure my engagement ring alone is around $85.  Wondering if this is high (or low), and if there are any other options (besides home/renters insurance).

Thanks!

Re: Where is your ring insured?

  • I added a personal articles policy to my renter's insurance. It's actually more expensive than I thought. Boo.

  • It's a rider on our home insurance.

  • We're adding it to our renter's insurance as well. We have 2 cars and renter's insurance so we get some bundling discounts as well. We have Farmers Insurance
  • Mine is covered by my homeowners insurance.

I use Jewelers Mutual. They were recommended to me by the jewelry store we bought my e-ring through. So far I have had no problems working with them, and they seem to cover pretty much everything.

  • Mine will be on a rider on my home insurance once I get my butt around to getting it done.  I am currently shopping around for new home insurance though so once I figure that out, i wil put my ring on it!

  • Homeowners insurance luv!

  • My ring was added as an additional rider to my renter's insurance policy. Once FI and I are married, we'll have a combined insurance policy, and my ring will be moved over (as will my wedding band) to a rider on our new policy. My insurance is through Senn Dunn right now.

  • Kelsey, you don't have to be married to combine insurance policies - if you are living together you can combine them and get more discounts (I work in insurance - we do it all the time).

My home policy gives me an automatic $2500 for jewelry, we just scheduled the remainder of it and is also on our policy. It's cheaper that way for us.

  • You people are very smar to add to renter's or HO insurance.  For those of you mentioning how expensive it is -- did you know that if something happens and you have a rider on your insurance, then you don't have to pay the deductible for that item?  And you can add all kinds of stuff - laptop, valuable iterms such as pictures, rings, and more.

Sorry...I work for a company that sells renter's insurance, and I have my Property and Casualty license.

My ring isn't insured, though.  But I think FI only spent about $250 or $300 on it, so it's easily replaceable.  It's just a simple sapphire.  But it is GORGEOUS!! I love it, and I didn't want a big, fancy ring, although FI would have gotten me one if I would have asked.

Ditto this. FI and I have all insurance, titles, lease in our names
  • Mine is with my Renters policy. I didn't really go up that much for it.
  • Mine is also through Jewelers mutual which was recommended by my the store where FI got my ring.  I pay I think $82/year for my e-ring and wedding band to be 100% insured.  Small price to pay for such an expensive/sentimental piece of jewelry.  Once we get married and I get added to the homeowner's policy we are going to look into adding it there.  We didn't insure FI's wedding band because it cost less than $100 so it wasn't worth it.
  • Homeowners too.  It wasn't very much but i dont remember exactly now.

  • We added mine to our homeowners policy. All of our insurances for both of us are bundled together.

  • Mine is insured through our homeowers insurance as well.  As soon as FI left the jewelers with it he went straight to the insurance company with the appraisal and added it immediately. Haha he was paranoid something was going to happen to it before he gave it to me.  He actually took it to his mom's to put in her safe until he was ready but it drove him crazy so he went back and got it and proposed sooner than he originally planned.

  • Nidakay is exactly right! I worked insuance until a year ago and I have my Property & Casualty license as well (life, accident & health too - ugh I hated that exam). The best bet for most is a rider through renters/homeowners. I added mine the day after I got engaged. I went down to the girl that handled my policy (we didn't write our own in my office) and told her I had to make a policy change. It is very easy to do and definitelynshould be done. And you ladies that don't have renters insrance need to get on it!
  • Mine is also covered under my homeowners insurance.

  • Mine is on our homeowners.  We have all valuables added to our rider just in case something were to happen (and most items are in the house most of the time).
