A SECOND LIMO? WHAT?!?

My mom's cousin Sal charters Limos... so they are helping me find a great price. SO the budget is tight... and we have a big wedding party...

Cousin Sal said... OK SO YOU MOM ALSO MENTIONED PICKING UP GRANDMA...

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

My grandma lives and HOUR in the other direction. SAL said, yea I spoke to mom and she said you need another car for her, and grandma. NO NO NO NO NO WE DO NOT!

I NEARLY FLIPPED OUT! I AM NOT PAYING FOR THAT! OMG! WHAT HAPPENED!
MOMZILLA that's what!
I am paying for everything on my own... she is not adding a limo!

    Tell her that.  If she needs her own special limo, then she needs to pay for it.

    Ditto Bbyckes,  if you mom wants Grandma to have a special car, then your mom needs to figure out a way to pay for it.

    why are you yelling so much...is this really that big of an emergency?  Just tell your mom she needs to cough up the dough.

    "Sorry, Mom, that's simply not in our budget.  If you'd really like to have a limo pick her up, here's the contact info for the limo company, it'll cost $X."

    Then change the subject, and don't let her change it back.  If you're paying, you get to decide how you spend your money.  Cowboy up and tell her no.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

    That would wind me up too, but you just need to set your mum straight and just let any vendors know that you will be the one placing orders, not your mother!

    It would be something that would set me off - if I thought my family members were spending my money without telling me.

    Instead, just say, "Hey, I spoke to the limo driver and he mentioned something about a second limo.  I let him know that that would need to be on a completely separate contract because that's something that I'm not going to be doing.  However if you wanted to do it, rock it!"

    I think dsoul hit it on the head.  If you're paying for everything, you need to contact all of your vendors and tell them that any and all requests for service will only come from you and that you will not honor additional services arranged for by anyone else.

    And then get in writing what you will and won't pay for.  When vendors, like the limo company, say something about additional arrangements, simply remind them that no one but your and/or your FI can approve any changes/additions to plans.

    Oh, and Kerry, please stop using your full name on your posts.  I now know that you're Kerry ****, that you live on Long Island, and that you're related to a Sal who owns a limo company.  How much longer do you think it will take to find out a lot more info about you?  Internet safety, please.

    Shoot... I didn't know that. was there.. I am changing it.

    Oh I want to add that my mom intends to pay for it... but if you knew more about the personal circumstances... even if she pays for it herself... it is not right.  I can't get into all of the details, but the yelling... in context of what is actually happening in our personal family life would make total sense.

    I have resigned to the fact that she is going to pay for this extravagent and unnecessary expense while we are budgeting everything down... it doesn't make sense to me or to anyone else but... It's her money.

    It's not the first thing she has tried to take controll over with my wedding plans. She can not afford any of it right now. I do not want her to keep adding more expenses when my Fiance and I are looking at ways to budget down on other expenses. So your right... it is not an emergency... but it is a sore spot with all things considered.

    We have since come to a compromise that I still do not agree with... but at this point, it is not worth arguing about.

    Poli - I think the thing about her Mom paying is an update. The original thread died on 2/7 and she updated the part about her Mom on 2/20. I could be wrong, though.
