HELP! How did you know your wedding gown was "The One"?

Hi Ladies!! So I'm going wedding gown shopping for the first time tomorrow! yayy!

But I wanted advice from those of you who are either married or have purchased your wedding gown...when you picked your wedding gown, how did you know it was "The One"? Also all tips & advice are highly appreciated! Thhannkkss in advance!

I just got my dress this past Friday and the crazy thing is it wasn't planned at all. My uncles took me and the next thing you know I was trying on dresses. I tried on two dresses that looked nice on me; and then I tried on the third one, and from the moment I zipped it up, I had butterflies and goosebumps. It is just a feeling you get I guess kind of when you fall in love...you just know.

You know I never got that- oh my god! I love it! ...crying... moment. I just put it on, loved the dress and how it looked on me and ordered it. I think for everyone it's different. I was excited to find my dress but not choking back tears of joy. I think it just clicks in your head and you feel like. yeah! This is the one! Have fun!!!!!

I didn't want to take it off. Like, ever. I tried it on 3 times throughout that appointment bc I couldn't believe it... Then my Dad and I took a "trip down the aisle" arm in arm toward a huge mirror, so I could see myself walking it in, and he started crying. We both knew it!

I saw it on the hanger and said, I want to try THAT one on first! It fit my style, our venue, and flattered the right parts. Love at first sight. No crying or goosebumps, just a satisfied feeling. I didn't want to take it off or look at dresses anymore...

When you keep comparing all of the other dresses to it, it's the one. I got butterflies and when I went to take it off I started crying (out of nowhere- random), but you just get a feeling that it's it.

I had a vision of what I wanted for my dress. As soon as my consultant brought it into the dressing room, I saw it on the hanger and knew it was it. Once I put it on, I didn't want to take it off... when I walked out to show my family & friends, my FMIL started crying.

Just thinking of this makes me excited at the thought of trying it on again (at my fittings) when it comes in!

Word of advice - GO with the dress YOU LOVE. When you go dress shopping, you'll have to listen to opinions besides your own. My mom was pretty tough b/c she always envisioned me in a Princess ballgown type of dress. When my dress wasn't what she wanted me in, she made it apparent. It upset me at first knowing that my mom just thought it was "ok" but after thinking about it, I realized that the only person who had to love the dress was me.

On a more positive note, since that appointment, she showed a few of her friends pictures of my dress (which I'm not thrilled about since it's before the wedding). They loved the dress and their carrying on and praising of the dress really helped my mom grow to love it. Bottom line is... regardless of what you wind up choosing, your mom & everyone else will love whatever you get b/c it's you in it.

I was also just planning on looking, buying wasn't on the radar yet, but when I put it on, I just loved the way I looked and felt in it. By the reaction of my mom and cousin, I knew there wasn't anything like it. Just make sure to take your time. Don't feel pressured to buy with your first dresses.

I knew. I saw it in a magazine before I got engaged and showed the page to one of my close friends. There were 4 other gowns on the page and she immediately pointed to it and said "that one is so YOU". It was one of the first I tried on, then I tried on at least 100 more to be sure (more because the process was fun) and compared every one to it. I couldn't wait to go back and try it on again, then didn't want to take it off. No tears though until someone asked who would lift my veil and I realized my dad wouldn't see me in it. Oh and I also knew when, a few months before the wedding, DH said he didn't like dresses with flowers. My gown has a gazillion flowers all over it and I didn't care because I loved it so much!

When you don't want to take it off. I just bought mine on Saturday...I tried on my dress, took it off to try on others (reluctantly) but could never take my eyes off of it. I put it back on and that was that! Like pps have said, don't feel pressured to buy, just be patient and you will find the perfect dress for you!

Thannkkk you ladies sooo sooo much! You gals are the best! This advice was very useful..I guess everyone is different..I can picture myself being one of the crying ones LOL..I'm not a person that cries over anything but when it comes to big emotional things my soft side comes out...although I must say, I thought the day I got engaged..I'd be a blubbering mess & I was pretty impressed with myself when all i did was get watery eyes & shed a lil tear! LOL but ahhh you gals got me ultra excited right now!! I will most definitely report back tomorrow & let you all know how it went! Once again thank you!!!

At my 4th different bridal boutique I had a room full of dresses. I tried on my dress and liked it alot and every other dress I tried on after that I kept thinking about *that* dress and I realized I found the one!

I didn't cry either, which is really surprising, because I'm a crier! I'm emotional and especially during the time that I went dress shopping, EVERYTHING was making me cry. Yet my dress didn't!

I went to two stores and it was the 3rd dress I tried on. I didn't have this huge butterfly moment where I saw myself getting married & my mom and I having a tearful embrace. Instead, I really really liked it because it was close to what I wanted, but there was something so different about it. I couldn't put my finger on it.

I tried some more and then settled that this was the best dress at this store (for me). I was convinced I needed to go to the 2nd store for possibly better pricing. Absolutely nothing there compared. That's when I knew. I raced back to the first store, hopped back in the dress and was so happy. I knew it was perfect. I still didn't cry, but I didn't want to take it off either!

When I put on "the" dress, my MOH started crying, which made me start crying. After that, I kept comparing every other dress to it.

I knew it as soon as the lady was helping me to put it on. I looked down and I was like this is the dress I've dreamed about since I was 3. As soon as I walked out and showed my mom she said she also knew it was the exact dress she always saw me wearing and knew I was going to pick it. It was a poofy tulle cinderella dress, but not overkill of poof, and it had beautiful detail on it, and actually had the same satin belt and detail going around it that one of my friend's had on her wedding dress which I loved - it was everything I wanted together on one dress, couldn't have asked for more! It was also the most comfortable dress I tried on - there was another I liked a lot, but it was like 100 pounds...no way I was dragging that thing around all day during August.

I didn't know mine was "the one" until I left the store. I had an appointment at another bridal store later in the afternoon and when I was trying on dresses there, I couldn't get that one out of my head. I figured it was time to stop looking at that point... it fit all my requirements and it was a great price. I definitely didn't cry or feel emotional, but was content with my decision. Also, I had NO idea what I wanted when I first started looking, either... I went with my gut.

I found my dress alone. I was not with anyone. Just me and the consultant. I had a dress that I already thought I wanted, but when I tried on "the one" it just put that other dress to shame. I had already tried on the other dress twice, so to completely put that one out of the running made me realize that this was it. I also didn't cry or get goosebumps. I just thought to myself how incredible I looked. And that was all that mattered.

I went to 11 different bridal salons, and all along I never had that moment of crying that other people I know have had. But when I found the one I liked the best, it started becoming the one that all other dresses got compared to. I went to the bridal salon I ultimately wound up buying my dress from twice, and everytime I tried on the dress everyone in the store could not stop complimenting me on it.

I actually wasn't sure even when I bought my dress that it was "the one". I felt pressured on time and even posted on here asking people which they preferred. I had always imagined a princess ballgown, but being a plus size girl, some of them were nice, but none I was crazy about. Ultimately I felt like they all made me look bigger and so I was having a hard time. I went to another shop and the consultant pulled only mermaid and a line dresses with rouging (spell?) and my mom and friend both picked up on the fact that I said I "loved" a new dress and was kinda dancing around in it as opposed to seeming kinda stiff in the other dresses. I love my dress but I never got emotional or shed a tear, but I liked the way I felt and looked in it. That's all I needed.
