We've had "Post your Ring" threads before if you'd like to start one!
As I guy I was stunned at how much some of the diamonds go for. Once you are at Ideal cut, 1.25 carat +, and VS1 + clarity range; one step up in the color means thousands of dollars. You have to choose what you feel is the best value. I came across diamonds that I wish I could have gotten my fiance but I just couldn't put that kind of money out since we were paying a large part of the wedding ourselves.

Lol so should I start a post your ring with the cost next to it thread? I was just curious to see the rings that were over $25K b/c they have to be pretty nice rings!

I agree with you. My FI told me that it was so overwhelming when he went to buy my ring. He said he was between 2 diamonds one had a flaw but was a bigger diamond. However you can't see the flaw without that telescope thing you look through. Or he could have gone with a smaller diamond with smaller flaws. He took my mom and cousin and they all decided of course get the bigger diamond if the flaw is not visible to the naked eye :) I still get compliments all of the time how much my ring sparkles!
Depending on the setting (gold/platinum, 14kt/ 18kt), the quality of diamond and where you bought it ( I know tiffany's has quite a markup); the 25k + rings will probably put you in the 2.5 karat + range for the main stone. That's a beast. My fiance's finger is smaller than a 4 1/2. I would love to see what a stone like that would look on her. lol

It depends a lot on the specs. If you play with bluenile.com, you can see the difference that quality makes in price.
This diamond is $25, 798: <span class="a"> </span><span class="a">Round</span> <div class="c3 carat">1.01 carats</div> <div class="c4 cut"><span class="a">Ideal cut </span></div> <div class="c5 color">D color </div> <div class="c6 clarity">IF</div> This diamond is $25,298: <span class="a">Round</span> <div class="c3 carat">3.20 carats </div> <div class="c4 cut"><span class="a">Very Good cut </span></div> <div class="c5 color">J color </div> <div class="c6 clarity">SI2</div> Both from the same site. And there are of course a ton in between!
The color is the killer. I had two diamonds side by side to each other. I had a D and an F (same color, size and cut) and the difference is price was like 35% if I remember correctly. It's very difficult to warrant that extra price since they both fall in the colorless bracket.
A color D (least color possible), and IF clarity (flawless) is a world of difference from a J color, SI2 clarity.
...but who really wants a J color? Just bc the diamond is bigger? Take a walk...
My ring is a decent size but the fact that its perfect color, cut, and great clarity makes it look bigger than what it is. I requested all those factors over carat but the carat I am def not complaining about either, lol

I could not agree with this more! A friend of mine and I both have the same size stone but a world of a difference in price. She wanted size above all else and in order to get the size she wanted she had to get a J clarity. Just not worth it IMO.

Holy crap!! I think my fiance's is like 4.25 or something. 3 1/2 has to be the smallest I have ever heard! That's like $2 worth of gold LOL j/k.
Since my fiance's mom works in the NYC jewelry business, I got to see a lot of diamonds directly from the diamond source. It's amazing what the markup is. At least double. She showed me a 1 carat canary diamond. It was a high quality diamond. I think it was like $12K - $15K by itself and that was wholesale. Retail would probably put you in the 25K to 30K just for the diamond.

Well, you could ask someone who has a J color but 3.5ct center stone and they would think a 2ct, D color was tragic. But to me, J isn't what I wanted... II wanted D. Put a J next to a D and it's a complete difference. If J is what someone wants on a 3ct diamond, then by all means, thats up to them. The point is, they could be the same price, but the difference is noticible.
