Wedding Recap and Withdrawal

Photographer Issue - Advice!

So, I signed a $2500 contract with a photographer for 8 hours with the main photographer and his assistant.  There has been disorganization from the start (he had no idea who we were at our month out meeting, but at that point, too late to find another).  So, long story short, day of wedding he didn't show up.  We called and turns out he had us down for a different day.  He showed up eventually but was 2 hours late, and his assistant was 3 hours late.  We missed the getting ready, pics of the dress, first reveal to parents and husband, and we were going to do pics before the wedding with the bridal party to save time, so we missed out on that.  We still owe half the balance.  I don't want to be a total d*ck to the guy because he has all the pictures. What do you think would be fair compensation for us?

  • So you hired 2 people for 8 hours (16 man hours).  You had people there for a total of 11 out of the 16 contracted hours (8 per person).  I would pay for the amount of coverage you received.

    2500 * (11/16) = 1718.75

I agree with this calculation. I even think that's generous considering they missed important pictures and were really late.

My photographer messed up our wedding reception photos. For some reason (she said problem with backup drive) our speeches, cake cutting, bouquet toss etc. didn't photograph. She thought by giving us more photos (which ended up being duplicates of what we already had) would makeup for her error. Fortunately, we had a secondary photographer and only paid her $400 (found her on craigslist). Sometimes you don't know what you are getting until it's too late.

  • We are getting a $700 discount and $400 credit towards photographs, so that's alright.  I will still NEVER recommend them, but hopefully the pics come out well!

  • I agree with Ven&Radio's calculation but would just like to add that seeing as this is the ONE special day that you can never redo (hopefully) and they messed it up even a little bit, they deserved to be negatively reviewed to warn other to-be brides from this potential bad photographer. Please post their names for others reading this post in the future.

I had a bad photograper doing our wedding and with all the photographers out there, I wish I had at least some way of filtering the bad ones out. Mine was Glamour Me Studio. DO NOT use them!
