Monday, Monday

I am still dragging from daylight savings.

I am getting anxious about tomorrow's election.

I got myself involved in a debate on a pro-life friend's facebook page that is already draining me.

One cup of coffee was not nearly enough today.

Re: Monday, Monday

  • I'm also still dragging from DST - instead of taking advantage and getting an extra hour of sleep, H and I stayed up an extra hour later playing Rock Band :)

I'm just ready for the election to be over, I'm so sick of all the ads and everything.  It doesn't help that we have a local election for Senate going on, so the commercials are just non-stop.
  • I am also dragging.  I could NOT sleep on Saturday night.  I didn't fall asleep until 5 AM...and that's including DST, so it was more like 6.  And then I got up at 10.  I am SO DARN TIRED lol!

I'm super excited, though.  My sister is being induced on Wednesday!!!  I can't wait to meet this little baby, and FINALLY find out with it's a boy or girl!

I'm also excited, though less-so, about my new gym membership.  The gym opened on Thursday, and so far I went on Thurs, Fri and Sat.  H and I are going again tonight.  I hate working out, have never been a gym person, and avoid cardio at all costs...but I haveto admit, I am actually looking forward to spending 40 minutes on the elliptical, listening to my iPod and just zoning out.

  • Re: Election Day - I am going to miss all the calls asking if I'll vote for the "women's rights/health" candidate. I love being the outlier woman that tells them that contraception and abortion are not a "right" nor are they healthy for women and so I will NOT be supporting their candidate. I usually hear "uh... oh... um... ok.....?"  Makes me laugh a little....
  • Riss, I'm also sick of people in general asking me who I'm going to vote for.  It's happened several times in the last few days.  The main problem is, I STILL DON'T KNOW!!  I know who I'm NOT voting for, but not who I am voting for.  It's quite the predicament.

There's a guy here running against an incumbent representative who has jumped on the contraceptive bandwagon.  He has this really creepy ad where the camera zooms in on his face while he likens the "government's restrictions on women's health" to "an octopus reaching it's tentacles into the most private parts of a woman's body."  When H saw it last night he said, "All that tells me is that this guy watches too much hentai."

In other news: It's our anniversary!  And our chuch had its monthly blessing for couples celebrating their anniversary in November yesterday, so that was just a great way to start the week!

  • I'm glad I don't have to deal with DST. The one time I did was a spring, and I was a mess for a good week.

Saturday, H and I stayed up late researching all the stuff on our ballots that aren't the big guns. Honestly, we had so much fun, and were laughing at some of the ridiculous stuff we encountered. It was a nice relief from the nasty political stuff. Our state hasn't gone to the Democratic presidential candidate since, like, FDR, so the presidental race hasn't been ugly. There are ugly, ugly races going on for Senate and our Congressional Representative. The House race is particularly awful because I cannot stand the "women's rights" candidate who is flooding the mail and TV with info on how the other guy is going to strip all things "good" away fro us poor women. Ug!

Yay for your sister, Resa! I would be dying with curiosity about not only the gender, but the name!! I will say a prayer that the induction goes well.

Any Calypso, one cup of coffee is never enough. Wink

  • where i am i not only get the ads for my state, i get them for NH too!

we have a big senate race here that i think many around the country are watching (brown (R) v warren (D)).  both candidates are running insane amounts of ads.

resa, have you been pumping any iron?  you may enjoy that more than cardio.  try doing 15 minutes of hard cardio to get that heart rate going them jump on some weights.  most of the machines are pretty easy to use and the gym will usually have trainers walking around who will help with questions if you have them (at least mine does).  the key to really burning the fat is strength training and most women (myself included!) dont do enough.

  • Calypso, I fall into the habit of doing no cardio, and only strength, so I'm trying to break that habit.  I agree that so many women think cardio is the only important thing, when strength training actually works wonders.  But...I have so much fat over my abs, you'd never know there's any muscle.  I've had so many trainers tell me that the only way I'll get rid of it is cardio, so after years of refusing to believe that, I'm finally giving it a try.  I still do a little strength (like, 15 minutes of arms/chest/shoulders), but my focus now is cardio.

    Happy anniversary Professor!

  • H and I voted last night, it felt good to get it done. Now I can only hope it makes a difference.

Happy Anniversary Professor!  I hope you guys do something fun for it! :o)

  • H and I just bought an elliptical last night - hopefully we will both stay motivated and use it  often!  I know I need to work on strength training too, but it's hard to figure out exactly what to do.

Erin, start with something like Pilates, where you're working muscles, but not necessarily lifting.  It'll build up your muscles, and it's easy to do from home!  Just buy a DVD (I love Denise Austin Pilates for Every Body) and give it a go!  The thing I love about Pilates is that it also really helps stretch your muscles.  I find that when I do Pilates, I have far less back/shoulder/neck pain.  With a desk job, stretching is just essential!

  • erin, i focus mostly on arms and abs - im a big walker and my legs are by far the strongest muscles on me, and i also work those by doing a higher strength on the  bike or elliptical.

  • Thanks ladies!  I would love to do more Pilates, but space is a bit of an issue in our condo.  That's part of the reason we didn't do too well sticking with our fitness game on the Kinect - it got old fast having to move furniture every time we wanted to work out.  But, if I remember correctly, it was mostly the cardio workouts that required you to use up more space - maybe I'll be able to do the toning exercises within the space we have without moving chairs... will give it a try tonight!
  • Erin, I live in a small condo, and admit that I have to move my coffee table in order to do my Pilates video.  It does take less space than some other workouts, though.

Man, this whole getting -dark-earlier thing always messes with me.

Agreed - yesterday it was only 5:30 pm and already totally dark out, I felt like it should've been 8:30 already.

I'm skipping out on attending H's darts team tonight, because they're playing at this kinda seedy bar that I have no desire to go to.  I'm going to test out the new elliptical tonight, and then maybe try to get some meal-planning done for the week (aka spend hours on Pinterest...)
  • It's the getting-light-early that freaks me out.  If I wake up and the sun is already out, I feel like I'm running waaaay late.

H brought a bunch of textbooks that I've wanted in my classroom for a while now to the school, and I came home to find him FINALLY taking things up to the attic.  He's so weird about organization that if I did it he'd just redo it all, so I've basically been waiting for him to get his act together.  His mom and dad are coming to visit for the first time this weekend, so it really kicked us both into gear (having him home for more than just two days helped, too).

I love hearing about how y'all are staying in shape.  I just find it hard to get into a routine, so I'm always looking for new ideas!
