First Time Trying On

I have an appt. to try on dresses tomorrow.  It's my first time.  I talked to the consultant today and she suggested looking online (I'm going to David's Bridal) and writing down a few I'd like to try on.  Well, I wrote down 19.  Is this too many for the first visit?  I have no idea how many is "normal" to try on.

Thanks for the advice!

Re: First Time Trying On

  • I went dress shopping for the first time at DB.  I remember trying on a lot of dresses.  I probably picked out 10 initially from the cataloge and then they ended up bringing another 5 or so dresses based on what I liked.

19 to start out with might be a little much, but it's not impossible to get through.  My first pass at trying on dresses, there were lots of them that as soon as I put them on I knew I didn't like them, so it went fairly quickly.  Remember, the sales people are there to help you, so don't feel like you are being a burden.
  • Try on about 4-6 per visit. More than that and they can all start to run together. Try one from each style category on your list to narrow down the options. You might try the first one and hate the shape, which means you won't have to try any others in that shape. Also be prepared to find out that they don't carry a certain style or size in the store at all. Some of the styles are internet only dresses. There will also be styles in the store that are not online because they are older, or they are not advertised. I bought a dress from them that was never advertised and, according to the website, doesn't exist.

Just remember that you can always make another appointment to return on another day and work you way down your list.
  • I'm going dress shopping for the first time tomorrow, too!

I've made a list of my favorites and printed them out to bring in (I think about 10).  I know that the store doesn't have some of them (I called and asked) but I'm hoping that seeing them all will help the consultant get a clear idea of what I like.  I've put them in order with the favorite one first, although most of them are very similar silhouettes by the same designer, so much of the differences are only in the details.

    Have fun!

  • Awesome advice, ladies!  I never thought of some of those points.
    Thank you!

  • I brought a list of 12, but they didn't have all of them in for me to try, and I ended up getting one not on the list anyway.
