Hair help

Hi there-

I have naturally curly fine hair. I am having trouble finding a style that fits my hair type. I dont want to wear it naturally curly and would like it to look different. But it looks strange staight in a up do (because it's fine). Any suggestions would be great

Re: Hair help

  • Could you get some clip in extensions to help make it fuller? That's what my hair dresser recommended I do even though I have thick hair since I want half up =)

Does your FI see you with straight hair often?  If not, enjoy your curls.  I too have fine naturally curly hair.  I have nice curls luckily & I also use proper hair products along with not shampooing it everyday.  Curly hair is dry hair - so avoid shampooing your hair everyday.  If you must wash your hair, just use conditioner & scrub your scalp with it as if it is shampoo.  I use shampoo in my hair every 3rd day & usually don't wash it at all unless I get caught in the rain, until that 3rd day.  It was not easy to do & I would just wash it every night w/ conditioner.  Now that i hold off I find my curls are much less frizzy & bounce better.
As to the thinness issue, go to Sally's Beauty Supply and pick up a hair pc.  I am a licensed cosmetologist & that place does not care - I just get a discount on what I purchase there.  They had what I needed, unlike the professional's stores.  I bought a hair pc that would be used to go around a bun (it has a wide pony tail holder).  It has the soft curls like I have & wearing it I had thicker-fuller-longer looking hair.  This is how we did it:  we pulled some hair from the top of my head & crown area through it (like doing a ponytial w/o tightening the band around it)- pinned it into place & then pulled the rest of my curls up & over it to give me the height I wanted.  It made a world of difference.

What you could do to make it different is do the front of your hair straight - which I was thinking of doing, but when we tried it, we liked the corkscrew curls falling down my forehead better than the straight look.

Buy the "Ricci" hair gel & the setting spray, it is awesome.  You may find it at Ulta or Sephora - not sure.  Just put the 2 items in your hair as soon as you get in the shower - scrunch with hands, then scrunch with your towel (I usually do it with my head upside down first) then flip over & part hair as desired & play lightly with the curls to get desired effect.  Let air dry & don't touch your hair.  You can use a blow dryer also - just use it on low with a diffuser to keep hair frizz free :)
Good luck, I am sure you will find a hair-do that will make you happy!
  • Here was my second hair trial.  Are your curls like mine?  I didn't have my veil with me, so that white thing is actually a plastic bag LOL.  Some of my co-workers thought it might be too high, so we stuck the bag in the veils place to get the full effect. :)

  • Hi ladies-

Thank you for your help. My curls are similar to yours Qzees. Maybe a little thicker. My FI does not see my hair straight that often. He actually loves it when it is straight. I always tell him because someone else took the time to blow it out. I want to wear it up just because its a long day and if its straight it wont last. These are good suggestions. I still need to have my hair trial so hopefully my stylist will have some ideas as well.
