Belize?? Where to stay?

We have decided on Belize for our Honeymoon but are having trouble figuring out where to stay, or even what area to stay in. Can anyone give me some info that has been? Thanks a million!

Re: Belize?? Where to stay?

  •  What is your budget? What time of year are you going? What made you decide to choose Belize if you don't have an area in mind (not sure what you are looking to do there or what attracted you to the destination)? I have stayed at Victoria House on Ambergris Caye. The hotel is quite lovely and within a short distance of plenty of restaurants and shopping. However, not knowing that your budget is and what you are looking to do, VH may not fit.

  • I went to Belize a few years ago and LOVED it. We stayed in the Cayo (which I think is an absolute MUST) and then on Ambergris. In the Cayo we stayed at the Black Rock Lodge-it's an eco resort, so it's not luxurious, but it was really lovely and the food was amazing. They have a lot of activities, the staff was great, and the cabanas are very comfortable-just not the sort of OTT honeymoon accomodations you may be picturing. Chaa Creek is down the road and is more luxurious.

On Ambergris I can't even remember where we stayed-it was a simple, clean hotel. We enjoyed snorkeling on the reef, but not much else on the island. The beach is not good-the reef is too close so there is a lot of seaweed/debris on the sand, and the water is very shallow and full of stuff too. If you want a nice beach, Placencia is much better, or one of the smaller Cayes.

If you stay in the Cayo-make sure to go to Actun Tunich Miknal-it's one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. We also took a trip into Guatamala to Tikal which I recommend as well.

I can vouch for this, also if you're weary about crossing into Guatamala (which you shouldn't be if you plan well although there is a very calm territory dispute between the two countries) Xunantunich is a great mayan ruin too.
