Getting in Shape

Recommend a DVD home workout?!

Hi! I'm looking for recommendations for a DVD workout that has given you results. My wedding is in December, and I'm having a hard time making it to the gym with my work schedule and our dog who we don't like to leave alone too often because she barks too much. I'm looking to tone my body overall and to drop 5-12 pounds. Please tell me your favorite DVD workout and why you use it! Thanks!

  • 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels (from the Biggest Loser).  Actually.... I love all her DVD's.  They are tough, but they are great for toning.

  • One of my favorites is 10Minute Solutions Ultimate Boot Camp. It is six 10-minute workouts, so you can kind of customize it to fit your schedule if you don't have a lot of time. They are short workouts obviously, but they are intense and make you sweat. Great for toning and getting your heartrate up!

  • I also recommend Jillian Michael's 30 day shred - if you're not familiar with this it is around 30 minutes long and she does 3 circuits with strength, cardio, and abs. You'll need dumbbells for this video.

I like Jillian Michael's No More Trouble Zones better than the 30 day shred, if you have a little extra time and don't mind the workout not having cardio. It is about 50 minutes altogether. You'll need dumbbells for this video too - they use 3 lbs. I like to use 3's for the whole video except for the biceps part (I don't feel it if I don't use 5's).

    Good luck!

  • I like the 30 DS, but I can't do a DVD every night or I get seriously bored. I have decided to add it in to my workouts once a week to give me some extra toning.

  • Shtallionchick, I agree.  I would never recommend doing 30DS every day.  I think that's crazy and bad for you.  If you're lifting weights, you're tearing your muscles, meaning you need time off to recover.
  • 30DS, No More Trouble Zones, and Banish Fat Boost Metabolism all by Jillian Michaels. Switch up between them. You'll get results.
  • I had great results with The Firm in college and I've used it ever since. You can get the older systems/aerobic steps on ebay for like $40. Add in some short jogs a few days a week and you're set.

  • If you have 60 days or more before your wedding, I highly suggest Insanity workout by Shaun T.  The name fits it.  He incorporates aerobics and using your own body as a resistance for toning.  You'll see results in a week.  It's incredible.  30DS is also very effective I like it alot as well.
  • P90X is awesome.  It is by Beach Body.  It is a 90 day program, but you can do variations on it.  Also, Insanity is another program that works great too.  I saw some great results, especially if you are looking to tone up!
  • Can you get insanity and P09x in stores or is it thru the tv and online?

You can only purchase these programs online or through the infomercials. I've done P90X and saw great results! I have been doing Insanity for a week now & it's tough but really works!

I have also done TurboFire, which is really fun and a great workout. All of these programs are by the company Beachbody.
  • I tried Day 2 of No More Trouble Zones and I just had to quit.  I did a little bit of it and had to retire to a different video that day.

It was just too much on my arms!

She does a backward lunge and at the same time does a lateral raise of the arms and it was just a killer on my arms and I had 5 lbs dumbells each.  And it was just a lot!  Is this normal ..why would it be so hard if I am just using 5 lbs.. Am I supposed to just suck it up.. or should I do the video with no weights for a while or something?

I think maybe.  It was just really tough on my arms,  What are others experience with No More Trouble Zones???????

  • I got P90X on ebay. All 13 cds, guides everything for $50. Best 50 I ever spent. I work out to it every other night with my MOH and it's awesome. Super tough but so worth it. You see results really fast. Make sure you eat protein through out the day though bc it will make you sick otherwise.
