The Kleinfeld of Massachusetts?

Hi ladies,

So I recently tried on dresses at Kleinfeld with my maids of honor and fell in love with two dresses. I wanted to go back with my mom to purchase, but it's kind of a pain (and expensive) for us to get to NYC and stay in a hotel there (I live in Cali, Mom lives in FL). My mom suggested just looking for the dresses in a salon in Mass, which is where we're from and where the wedding is.. so makes sense to tack it on to a trip where I'm meeting with other vendors already.

Any recommendations on bridal salons that have a relatively large collection in Mass? For info, the two designers I liked were Jenny Lee and Alvina Valenta. I'd prefer something in the south shore/Greater Boston area but am willing to travel a bit!

Thanks!

  • I'm surprised you managed to leave Kleinfeld empty-handed...I sure didn't! ;-)

Not that I made it to any of these places, but I know L'Elite on Newbury Street in Boston has a great selection - pretty sure they would have Valenta and Lee. Other than that, Cristina's in Andover has a great selection - I know they have Alvina Valenta - but that is North Shore.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thank you! Yes it was super difficult to leave Kleinfeld empty-handed... but had to show my mom first :-)

Actually I've heard of Cristina's and they have both Lee and Valenta so I might check it out! I have e-mailed the store to see if they have the dresses I liked at Kleinfeld.
  • It is a little bit further away, but you could try Madeleine's Daughter up in Portsmouth, NH.  They have a good selection of dresses/designers and no sales tax in NH.
  • Country Weddings in Hingham carries Alvina Valenta
  • I bought my dress at Allegria Bridal in Belmont, they carry Alvina Valenta but I don't believe they carry Jenny Lee. They had a pretty good selection overall though and I loved working with them!

Thoguh I didn't buy my dress there, I really liked Allegria in Belmont! Christina's and Country Weddings are supposed to be good, too. (L'Elite doesn't actually carry either Alvina Valenta or Jenny Lee.)
  • If you are willing to travel a little farther to CT, there is White Dress by the Shore which has an amazing selection and offers quite the experience.  GL!
  • thanks ladies :-) I will check out all of these places!
  • Just wanted to provide an update (and complain a bit!) - I made an appointment at Cristina's who is the only bridal salon in Massachusetts that carries Jenny Lee, HOWEVER, they don't have the Jenny Lee dress I tried on at Kleinfeld and they aren't able to order it :-/ apparently Jenny Lee is one of the few designers who does not let salons borrow samples for clients to try on (Cristina's was going to charge me $150 to do this if JL had allowed it).

Very disappointing because I wanted to try on both dresses again right after one another to compare (and to show my mom). Hopefully I find a similar Jenny Lee dress that I love!

I bought my dress (Liancarlo 4848) at Country Weddings in Hingham. They had quite a few AV gowns, if I recall correctly. I had originally fallen in internet love with a Jenny Lee, so I was psyched for my appointment at Cristina's. They cited the same $150 BS to me, as they didn't have anything remotely related to the gown I'd be trying on.

The sales people at Cristina's were horrendous, rude, and completely unhelpful, though I did like a couple of things I tried on there. I ALWAYS wear a size 4 or 6 and one of the salesladies asked me in a very conversational tone, "so, how much weight will you be losing?"

I wound up going back to Country Weddings to buy "my" dress the very next weekend. Super sweet, kind, and no pressure there.
  • Oh wow, thanks for letting me know. I actually ended up canceling my appointment at Cristina's anyway because after a bit of research I found that Madeleine's Daughter in NH had a better selection of designers (including Alvina Valenta). No Jenny Lee again but I'm hoping to just fall in love with another gown!
