Memorial Day weekend wedding?

My fiance and I are so close to picking our wedding date. One of our options at the venue we love is the saturday of memorial day weekend. we will have a lot of guests traveling from out of town and think that doing it the holiday weekend would give them an extra day to travel that most will already have that monday off of work/school.

we are still iffy though because many wedding planning sites say to avoid holiday weekends because people wont want  to take an extra day off on top of the one they are already given, traveling is more expensive, etc.

not too sure what to do!! any thoughts/opionions on this?? thanks!!

Re: Memorial Day weekend wedding?

  • We had our wedding over the July 4th weekend.  We thought it would help people out because most likely they would not be working and wouldn't have to take an extra day off for work.  It really worked out well for us.

It seemed to work out well for our guests as well.  Everyone we expected to show, did, plus a few more we weren't expecting.

  • We attended a wedding on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.  People had a free day before and after, which must have been nice for people who were travelling.
  • I'm a fan of going to holiday weekend weddings, personally bc of the "freebie" day off of work.

But you need to run it by yours and your fiance's family to make sure there wouldn't be any major issues bc of any travellers.
  • I'm doing the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, and reception sites were cheaper because it was a Sunday.  The only downside is that hotels are really expensive as a result (we'll be in San Francisco).  But we did find a reasonble hotel for guests outside of the city.
  • I attended an out of town wedding over Memorial Day weekend.  They got married that Sunday so people could drive in Sat and leave Mon and not miss any work.  No one had to fly except the groom's immediate family, but most of us drove 6-12 hours.
