Vent re: rings/jeweller

A little vent here...
We ordered our rings mid January; FI is getting one custom made and the ring I chose is part of a set so it just needs to be resized. They told us the wax for FI's ring would be ready in 3 weeks tops, so he could try it on and make any changes before the ring is made. Well 3 weeks go by and no one calls. We wait another week and with no call, FI calls to find about the status (he was soooo excited about the ring). He kinda gets shuffled around but they tell him that it will be ready by Tuesday (he called on a Thursday). Of course, no call on Tuesday. He waits until the following Monday to call again and this time he's not as patient. He tells them that he will be in on Wednesday so it better be there. We went in on the Wednesday and it was there, but it was clearly just thrown together at the last minute; the tag said it arrived the day before so clearly someone rushed the order on Monday after FI called. His ring is fairly simple but they put zero detail in the wax and it was kind of insulting that after 2 months they did something overnight. We expressed our frustration with the lack of service and we were assured that they would make sure the rest of our experiences with their store were positive and that the ring would be ready in 2 weeks.
Soooo, yesterday was 2 weeks, and of course, no call. FI and I are torn on what to do. FI is thinking he'll wait until Monday or Tuesday to just drop in and ask about the ring. I know he'll raise hell and I don't want to witness that mayhem (I think he actually enjoys it lol). I would rather just ask them for our deposit back and go elsewhere. I have zero faith in this store and I am very insulted that they cannot even have the courtesy to call us knowing that we are expecting a call. What happens in the future when we need something? If their service is this bad BEFORE we get our rings, what will be be AFTER?? FI wants to swindle a deal; I care more about reliability and service.
What do you think we should do? Try to pay less and stay with this jeweller? Or just take our business elsewhere?

(ok so maybe a long vent lol)

Re: Vent re: rings/jeweller

  • I'd go elsewhere at this point. All that run-around would have left a bad taste in my mouth, and I really wouldn't want to give them my money. Yuck. :( Sorry you're getting nothing but hassles from them.

  • Personally I would take my business elsewhere! I think what they are doing is completely unprofessional and rude and ya I would lose my *poop* on them too hahaha. I never really took notice regarding service and courtesy of businesses before but since I've been planning this wedding I've had the same experience as you with a few different places and in my opionon is not worth stressing about, just go somewhere else that will appreciate you.
  • I would move on. If they half A$$ed it the first time then who knows what the result will be.

    <div>This. They're being insanely unprofessional...</div>
  • While it would be nice to get a good deal (and with jewelry you can always take it elsewhere for service down the road), I'd personally want to go elsewhere just to be stubborn and not give my money to a crappy business!

  • I'm totally with you ladies but FI is such a cheapo and would love to pay less $$. I just don't trust them and it's kinda been my stipulation with ALL the vendors that I have to trust them. I refused to hire a florist who wouldn't contact me or caterer who tried to charge me extra; no trust, no business.

We'll see what transpires this week and hopefully I can convince FI to just let go of a "deal".

  • I personally would go elsewhere. The relationship with a good jeweller is a long one.... someone you can go to for when you have issues down the road, or general maintenance... someone you can refer to others, or call up when you need gifts for friends/family...
I would find someone you trust!
  • Ugh, that is so unprofessional of them. At this point, no deal they'd give me would be sufficient enough for my business.

  • Ditto. They've caused so much frustration as it is, how do you know the craftmanship won't be crappy after all that? And the craftmanship is sooo important on jewelry!
  • It's really suprising too because they are such a reputable jeweller in this city. We almost didn't even visit them because we assumed they were "too good" for us... ha.

  • If your FI's primary concern is the $$, see if you can negotiate with them to knock down the price a little because of all the shiiit they've put you through. If not, say "no thanks then" and take your business elsewhere. It's worth a shot.
