Help Pls!

I live in NY and am planning a wedding in Dallas TX! We have the venue for the reception but Im having trouble finding a church that I like! I really want something that looks like a castle! Some old, stone, with stain glass windows! If anyone knows of anything please let me know!

Re: Help Pls!

  • Can you give us the name of your reception site so we can pick something in the area? 20 minutes is generally the max travel time that is recommended.
And if you need any other vendor recommendations, just let us know. We have AWESOME vendors in Dallas!
  • We are having it at South Fork Ranch. They have all the vendors go through them! But thank you! Ive always wanted a princess fairytale wedding and my fiance is very low key and like small intimate gatherings. Thats why we chose to do a destination wedding and Dallas is one of his favorite shows and he grew up watching with his mother and it is very special to them. I love the venue BUT I really wanted a "magical" looking castle church! I dont mind driving an hour from the venue to the church! That is what we were going to do in NY! We have all kinds of old castles here in NY and I can't seem to find any in TX. ***Actually I do need some names for photography and video.
  • At first glance it looks like most couples do both the ceremony and the reception at Southfork. And you may not mind driving an hour, but it might be a bit of a hassle for guests.

Also, what is your budget for photography and videography and we can throw some names at you?
  • Yes, I have already spoken to them and know that they do both there. I am looking to have the ceremony in a church. I am really looking for one that looks like a castle. I dont mind driving an hour and they dont either.... like I said that is what we were going to do here in NY. Do you know of any churches like this???? I really need some names. Also we dont have a budget we just want the best!

The only place I can think of in the DFW area that resembles a castle is Medeival Times, which isn't helpful.

    ETA:
This site identifies Old Red Courthouse in Dallas as a castle, but I never heard of it referred to in that way. LMGTFY. Clicky. None of the other locations seem to be close to Dallas, unfortunately. Unless you're willing to drive 4.5 hours to Galveston. I'm sure nobody would mind.
  • If you have your heart set on a castle church, maybe you should have stayed in NY. Dallas, doesn't really have any that I know of. There are some "pretty" churches. The cathedral in downtown Dallas comes to mind.

I think an hour drive for people who don't know Texas is asking a lot of your guest and I would seriously reconsider having the reception and ceremony more than 30 minutes drive apart, unless you are providing the transportation between the two. I would say this even if you where having it in NY.
  • You might want to check out the Bella Donna chapel in McKinney. It's very pretty and the entire area around it (Adriatica) was built to resemble a place in Croatia. It also wouldn't be *too* far from Southfork either.
  • Maybe you can have a small local 'celebration' back in NY at a castle-y venue?
  • Bella Donna is the only one that came to my mind.  We have lots of beautiful chapels but they don't really look like castles.

There used to be a place called Castle Douglas in Rockwall but I don't know if it's still there.  It's cheesy anyway IMO.

  • sttaacceeyy I will look into that!     @ cwaggoner07 Jen6862 Yes, I will be providing limos for everyone. My fiance really wants to go to South Fork to have it so I am trying to make us both happy by doing this.      @ courtski2004  what do ETA and LMGTFY stand for?
  • Dallas is full of great photographers.  But a budget would be helpful.

    ETA:  Edited to add.
LMGTFY:  let me get that for you

Southfork Ranch was where the 80's show 'Dallas' was filmed and is in Parker.
  • My photographer, Leslie Spurlock, may give you more of the dark/ castle-y look you're looking for. That's not all she does, but she plays really well with light. Here's a Snow White shoot: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150949856899886.433878.90107134885&type=3
If you dig around her facebook, she has lots of different styles. I absolutely lover her versatility.

My videographer is J Christopher, whose style is really different from Leslie Spurlock, but still great!
  • Im in LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This would definitely be a bit of a drive, but hey, if everyone is going to have a limo...check out First United Methodist Church in downtown Fort Worth. (Just google it and check out the images.) In my opinion, it's very castle-esque. My grandparents go there and I considered it. I'm not sure what their rules are on marrying non-members though; you'll have to call and find out (don't e-mail, I tried that and got no response). HTH (hope that helps).

  • I LOVE Bella Donna! I think it is so beautiful! You also get to ring the bell (directly from Croatia) right after getting married here. I will note that if you have a larger guestlist, they may not be able to accommodate.

There is also Castle Douglas in Rockwall: (pictures: click) (info: click) and it is 37 minutes away.

Allison Davis also does some phenomenal work: http://www.allisondavisphotography.com/blog/
    I also Andrea Polito: http://www.blogpolito.com/
Perez Photography is a Dallas favorite: http://perezweddings.com/

It's a really pretty venue, but it might be kinda pricey. The main house where the hosw was filmed looks the same but the places around the grounds where they hold events is really well maintained and pretty.
  • We live right down the street from southfork! Like we could literally walk there. : it's a cool location with cool tv history. There are no castle like churches in the immediate area but Bella is a good compromise. ;
  • Both of those are a RATHER long way from Southfork. I beg, please do not do that to your guests. Some days (yes, even on Saturdays), it can take two hours + just to get from one end of DFW to another (hell, even sometimes 2+ hours to get form one side of Dallas to the other).

Do you and your FI attend church currently? What denomination?
