Candy Bar Question

I was thinking about doing a candy bar at my wedding.  I was wondering where you ladies that are planning on doing candy bars are getting your candy and your jars?

Re: Candy Bar Question

  • I found a woman who owns a cafe and offers a candy buffet service so she's providing all the jars, candy and doing the set up and clean up.

When I was looking into doing it myself I found a lot of jars at Michaels. Plus they have the 50% off coupons all the time.

  • I bought all of my jars and scoops from another bride on TK.  I plan to buy my candy from a couple of the websites that are recommended by other brides; there are usually posts about websites and amounts on DIY every so often.  I want to say the ROT is like 1/4 lb per guest....  The sites that I can remember right now are candywarehouse.com and nuts.com.

Do you know when we should be buying them?  I don't want to have to put a rush order in if I cut it too close.

  • I went to a graduation party this weekend and the girl had one!  It was adorable!  The mother offered us the containers for our wedding which was very "sweet" of her.  (Bad pun, sorry!)  Anyway, she told me she got all the candy from Oriental Trading Company and the containers from Michaels/AC Moore using 50% off coupons!  She said it was very reasonable.

  • I'm slowly collecting jars from thrift stores and the dollar store, no more than a couple dollars per jar. For candy I'll be getting it from Bulk Barn, as you can tell from the name it's a bulk food store. They've got giant containers of all sorts of different foods and candies, and you just fill up bags with whatever you want. The candy there is pretty cheap, and they often have sales.
  • I've found my jars at Hobby Lobby (when they are 50 percent off), Dollar Stores, and Walmart.  I found these 4x4 cute popcorn boxes in our colors on orientaltrading.com and some ribbon that had wedding sayings.  They are pretty easy to assemble, then I used a single hole punch, did two holes on each box and tied ribbon to make handles on each one for guests to carry them.  Thinking about getting Monogram Stickers and putting one on each box for a little extra decoration.  Those boxes we are going to have available for the guests to use throughout the night of they want to much on some sweets.  The candy we haven't ordered yet, but found a big variety on candywarehouse.com and
bakerscandies.com, which are the chocolate meltaways that come in different flavors and are wrapped in different colors.

  • I think I am going to order the candy from candy.com.  I found that they had a little more variety in the colors I am going for.  I plan on ordering the candy at the end of September/early October.  I would suggest that if you live in a hotter climate, that you overnight the chocolate candies.

As for the jars, I bought one at Michaels with a 50% off coupon and it was around $15.  Then I walked two doors down to Marshalls and they have several to pick from for no more than $12.  I think I got 4 for $10 and 2 for $12.  I also got one from JoAnns with a 40% off coupon for around $15 as well.

  • I purchased most of my jars at TJ Max or Marshalls,  I have been looking into where to get the candy but havent really found anything good, so I am glad for these options.

I am also so happy to get the 1/4 for each measurement because I was unsure of how much to get. So I will probably get this plus a bit extra.

  • I have 13 jars and 4 plates and I spent around $50. Go to places like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross, Good Will, and The Salvation Army. That is where I purchased all of my jars.

  • I don't know how many of you have a Gordon Food Service nearby, but most of their pricing on candy has been less than the websites I've found.  Plus if you have them, there's almost always coupons in the Sunday circular.
