guys attire vs. girls attire

Our wedding is a very laid back country, rustic wedding... the ceremony will be outside and the reception will be in a big building on the local fairgrounds. I am having trouble finding something suitable for the guys, its the end of August so its going to be extremely hot and I hate the idea of them having to wear black. The girls are wearing long dresses, so my question is... do the guys need to have jackets to fit the "dressy look" and would it be too casual for them to just wear a vest with a tie if the girls had floor length dresses? Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Re: guys attire vs. girls attire

  • If the girls have floor length dresses then I would have them wear their jackets for the ceremony and then they can take them off. Long dresses just tend to look more formal, and they can wear their jacket for 30 minutes without sweltering. They can always wear grey, tan, brown, or navy suits or tuxes if you don't want black.
  • My ladies aren't wearing long dresses, but they're a little more on the formal side in satin. Our guys are wearing black pants, white shirts, black vests and skinny ties. (We're getting married in a historical barn, but nixing the rustic feel and going a little more kitsch)

Vests are AWESOME. But it really depends on the dress if the vests would work- are they regular BM dresses? What fabric are they? Type of neckline?

Ditto PP that they can do a different color than black- gray and tan suits are so.sharp. IMO

  • thanks ladies. we've totally changed our minds... Go figure. Guys are going to be wearing tan tuxes and gals, I think are going to be wearing tea length dresses
