Dress Decisions

Okay, so my FMIL and I went to try on dresses this weekend. As we were talking and such we thought about the option of getting a BM dress in ivory or white for the wedding. What do you think? Has anyone done this? I mean it can save a lot of money, and I could get someone to do some beading detail work if I wanted. But I do like the thought of a true wedding dress. But outside, in N. Carolina, in August, I can't go with a lot of fabric that is for sure.

Thanks Ladies.

TobeSAS - Get the dress or gown that makes your heart sing,  It doesn't matter if it is a Bridesmaid's dress or an evening gown that you love, what matters is how you feel in it.  What is your groom wearing?  That may help in your decision.

Several ladies on this board have opted for dresses other than wedding gowns for their weddings.

If you see a dress you like, get it.  I do not think the dress you wear has to be labeled "wedding" or "bridal" to be a perfect dress for your wedding.  If you find one that's you, make it a done deal.  Good luck!

BTW ... this is my dress:

A "true wedding dress" is a dress you are married in.  While there are gowns marketed to be "bridal gowns" and such, you should look for the dress you want to be married in.

If you want something less formal, try Nordstroms or JCPenney - they have alot of great "informal" wedding gowns, as well as David's Bridal (who is having a $99 sale now).  I am sure you will find something that is not too heavy for NC in August.

I am also in NC, but we are having an inside church wedding in June.

    Best Wishes!

    Anniversary

Nice dress, lisa50! I am not getting married until Sept 2012 so I'm not looking yet, but I am definitely going to be looking at BM dresses.

Thanks!  I found it in the Special Occasion department at Nordstrom.  The best part is that I wasn't even looking for it at the time.  Kismet.  :)

    Thanks Ladies!

I am going to go and look around this weekend. As far as what FI is wearing he will be wearing a less formal style tux. We haven't picked all the details yet. But his GM's will be in all black with a silver tie. They are all his brothers and they all look very nice in the black. It is kind of what they opted for really. They actually told us they didn't want facny colors or anything. hehe.

I opted for a bridesmaid dress, although I purchased it in white.  This is my second wedding and while I wanted something formal, I didn't want to go with satin.  You can find a lot of bridesmaid styles that come in white or ivory and the cost is much less.  I paid $250 for mine.  Good luck

Jcrew has some great dresses that are in ivory but well less money nice simple dresses. Mine is the sophia. I paid $250 for it ( you can also find it on ebay often for less) It is 100% silk and while formal simple and without a train. It comes in other colors which are often used as BM dresses so I think it fits the bill you are looking for.

Since I will be on a beach I wanted something simple without a train but I wanted silk.
