Matching Tuxes

So I have a question. I have options for 2 tux rental places. I have a special with Tuxedo Junction for tux rentals for $69 for everything, and a special at men's wearhouse for tuxes for $89 and my FI will be free. My FI will only let his guys and him order from mens wearhouse since half of his guys are in New Orleans and he wants everything to be simple.

My problem is my brother is a 6X and Tuxedo Junction is the only one that can do it relatively easy. My father is worried that all the tuxes need to match. Do the tuxes the groomsmen wear need to match the tuxes the FOB and brothers? There is no FOG so that's simple enough.

Is your bother in the WP?  I don't see a reason for anyone but the bridal party itself to match and even that is negotiable. The mothers get to wear whatever they want, so why not the rest of the family.  I don't think anyone will notice that your brother has on a different tux.

    Edit: clarity

  • if you and your FI are ok with them not matching, then it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks. at ours, any males not in the wedding party (regardless of my side or his) will be in nice suits, and only the wedding party will be in tuxes... good luck!

  • They aren't in the Wedding Party, and I don't really care if they match exactly if they are still close. I think they are more self conscious than we are.

  • To answer your question: the tuxedos need not match exactly- even within the groomsmen. It is perfectly acceptable for each gentleman to be wearing proper black tie ( http://www.blacktieguide.com/ ), executed with his own style and fit preferences. In fact, I think it looks more polished for each gent to have his own befitting his style than to have a lineup of exactly matched gents.

I'll add this: I recommend reconsidering your rental tuxedos. For the price you've been quoted ($70-$90, plus free Groom's tuxedo), I highly doubt you'll receive quality attire or service. At best, the sleeve and trouser lengths will be hemmed, but do not expect a flattering fit or drape. The fabric is likely to be synthetic at that price point, which is both hot and looks cheap to the eye. Combine that with the stress of worrying about whether the proper sizes will actually be held and the need to return them the next day. Finally, that money spent on the rental is lost. At the end of the 24 hours, the renter has nothing to show for it.

I'd sooner recommend tuxedo purchase than rental, which though more money, pays for itself after 2-3 wearings and will look and feel much better, as it has been tailored for the wearer.
